Bangkok's governor went online to say that 2021 and 2011 are totally different when it comes to the potential for flooding, as reported by Sanook.

Gen Aswin Kwanmuang said in 2011 - the year of what became known as the "Great Flood"  - there were many storms and levels in up country reservoirs and dams were full to bursting.

The inevitable release of water led to flooding in the Chao Praya Basin.

After giving the benefit of his geographical knowledge the general summed it up by saying that water levels this year are like last year when the capital of Thailand was not particularly affected by flooding.

Despite this assessment he said that shoring up of the Chao Phraya's banks continued and there was a 24 hour watch on the river.

Based on all previous predictions coming out of government this one is not a good omen.

Words spoken by an idiot. No-one knows whether Bangkok will flood or not......it depends on the amount of rain and how fast it falls.

The potential is always there, time will tell.

Bangkok will not flood like 2011's "Great Flood" says Governor Aswin

You know that he could be right ,,,It could be Worse.

Well surely everyone will sleep better now, since a Thai official said so! :cheesy:

"Bangkok will not flood like 2011's "Great Flood" says Governor Aswin"

Good enough reason to start filling the sand bags!

who says ? King Canute ??

Each year it's "Flood - no way"  but ends up in being flooded all the way along.

Quite a sour joke almost...

Only a total idiot would make a prediction concerning something they have no control over

"and there was a 24 hour watch on the river."    problem solved........

Generally speaking, Generals hereabouts are mouthpieces without little credibility.
