MJCM
We are currently giving our dog once a month a tablet of Heartgard Plus and then after 1 week a tablet of Nexgard. Today my wife went to buy a new supply of both of them and to avoid any confusion she took the packaging with here. Now the women in the store started saying, "NO you shouldn't give that you should give NexGard Spectra." Of course they didn't sell both Nexgard and Heartgard so that (maybe) could be the reason! ???? Our dog is taking this combination (Nexgard and Heartgard Plus) already for over 1 year and no problems with Flees/Ticks/etc etc So my question is what is the difference if there any? I personally think that Nexgard Spectra is Nexgard and Heartgard combined. Am I correct? And a bit related question, I see that neither have protection for tapeworms. Correct? cleopatra2
The difference is the ingrediants. Heartguard has Ivermectin whilst Nexguard Specta uses Afoxolaner and Milbemycime Oxime. Ivermectin is known to cause issues in dogs that have the MRDI gene mutation if used long term.
