There were more than 3,000 deaths or injuries from road accidents throughout the Kingdom over the past nine months. A National Police statement today said there were 1,065 deaths and 2,593 injuries from 1,897 traffic accidents during this period.

It also said more than 160,000 vehicle owners were fined for various traffic offences. The vehicles involved were more than 120,000 motorcycles and 40,000 vehicles of all types.

The statement said the offences included riding without using crash helmets, overtaking rashly, driving while using phones, having no number plates, exceeding the speed limit, not observing road signs, driving without a licence, not wearing seatbelts and driving while intoxicated. National Police spokesman Lieutenant General Chhay Kim Khoeun said that enforcement against traffic violations during the period was good.
