The bodies of four people, thought to be insurgents, have been found shot to death in a forest peat swamp in the Bareh Tai sub-district of Bacho district in Thailand’s southernmost province of Narathiwat, after security forces combed the swamp last night following a six-day siege, which had been punctuated by occasional clashes.

Thai security forces also seized two M16 and one AK47 assault rifles, two hand grenades and some ammunition at the scene.

Last night, the bodies were taken to the Narathiwat provincial hospital for autopsy.

Surely Islamic terrorists would be a more accurate description? The cause is irrelevant it's who they are and their methods.

Live by the sword!

Pick-up guns to prove a point is futile, it always comes down to talks around a table.

Something the Thai government isn't eager to do. The powers-that-be would prefer this conflict to simmer on. That's good for the generals.

A Thai friend who comes from the south says it is in the interest of police and military to have instability in the region as they get paid “danger allowance”. Some of the conflicts are apparently instigated or fueled by such personnel to ensure continuation of this extra pay.

All civil servants get paid danger money in the three provinces. My girlfriend works for the Ministry of Agriculture in Narathiwat and gets a handsome extra on top of her regular salary. I do believe that for many people it makes being employed there more attractive.

Do you mean to say that their car shot them?

Surely that would be an RTC (road traffic collision/crash) not many authorities use the word accident anymore . Because they are not.
