Strange scenes in Sihanoukville as Chinese national begs police for sanctuary in street

Featured Replies

A strange incident in the streets of Sihanoukville, where a bloodied Chinese national was chased through the streets by men wielding electric batons and then begged police for protection, has caused much discussion amongst both Chinese and Cambodian commentators.

The images, widely shared on Chinese language news outlets and social media, alongside a video, appear to first show a Chinese national in an animated discussion with a group of security guards outside a casino on the morning of October 6th, 2021.The man appears to have stabbed himself in the neck with a pair of scissors and his clothes show fresh bloodstains.

Onlookers say that the man had been chased through the streets by 2 men wielding electric batons. When the 2 chasers saw the security guards and police, they quickly disappeared. The man then moved into the middle of a crowded street where he fell to his knees in front of a group of Cambodian police and a Chinese interpreter and asked them for protection.
