Air Carriage Rule On Liquid Display Enforced Today

This is one of the most stupid regulations I've ever came upon.

Thank you, U.S.A.!! For inventing it, and bringing it to the world.

Sorry, but I do believe it was the BRITISH who started this security excess about the liquids last year.

Oh, and, by the way, have you convicted anyone charged with trying to bring the liquid bomb on British Air that started this?

Not yet! Those charged have still to go through the due process of actually being found Guilty before being convicted!!

But in these times of heightened threats, if information is received of a plot to bring down aircraft by using "liquid bombs" do you expect the authorities not to take preventative measures? Does anyone now complain about having to remove their shoes through US airports after explosive was found in the trainer of a passenger! Some people are only convinced after a tragedy occurs not before. I would have thought the lessons of officialdom debating whether to issue warnings BEFORE the Tsunami struck until, sadly for 5000+ poor souls it was too late, would have been a salutory lesson for all in Thailand - prevention is better than cure!

On a recent trip BACK to Thailand from Dulles Washington, I was asked to take my shoes off, I pointed to my throat where I had just had an operation, I couldn't talk very loud, but, the kind overweight black lady wearing a wrist emblem I recognized from Jakarta as Muslim, bent over, took my shoes off, escorted me thru the line and put them back on for me on the other end, placed her hand on her heart and said 'Alah Akbar' - and I was flying coach ..... I was posted in Indonesia during the Bali bombings, and went to the ceremonies for the next two years, I was still there when the Tsunami hit Banda Ache, and I am hear to tell you, its an extremely small percentage of Muslims that truly hate us - and they have much less education than the racist posters above - get a life, find somthing else to bitch about, or better yet - stop travelling - and posting your slime - then we won't have to put up with your constant bantering US, UK, Bush, Muslim, bashing - do us all a favor, stop posting your trash on a site that is 'dedicated to travelling to Thailand, getting visa's, providing advice on applying for extended stay visa's etc etc etc.............Oh by the way, I'm a Catholic 20 year military vetran and now a foreign service officer - just in case your wondering - Sh*t like this makes me want to unsubscribe.............this site is turning inrto looney bin city.........Tim Chatelain

Gawd almighty ! If someone posted a topic here that said eveyone was going to get 10 million dollars and never have to work again there would STILL be some people who would have a whinge. Get a life !

I travel on internationals planes a fair amount ( at least 20 times a year), only ever have carry on luggage and head to all kinds of countries, both first world and third world. If the rules of flying as a passenger on a commercial flight were to change tommorow so that you had to wear a pink tu-tu, sing "silent night " at the top of your voice on the way to the airport and drink only water for a week prior to flying and 2 weeks after I would GLADLY do it and anything else imposed upon me. Why?

Cause every time I am heading to the airport I say a quiet and heartfelt thankyou that I am living in a time in history where airtravel is cheap enough and convient enough so that I can step on a plane and a few hours later step off it in another country. To all those whinging, whining, complaining malingerers that seem to be starting to infest this forum I say before you start your usual rantings next time just spare a thought for those people who, even as recently as 50 years ago, would not have had the chance to even think about getting on a plane and jetting off to foreign climes.

Modern airtravel has allowed almost anyone to see any part of the world with ease and comfort. Unfortunately this also means that people who should never be allowed to leave home are doing so. Keep your petty predujices and complaints in the cupboard at home and if you cant then you stay there too.

I was refused in February during a stop over in Zurich on my way to Brussels to carry a bottle of whisky bought at the tax-free shop in Bangkok as hand luggage. To avoid confiscating this expensive whisky, I had to exit the airport, re-enter and re-check in (although I had a valid boarding pass already) at the counter, handing over this bottle of whisky to be separately boarded as checked-in luggage in a special bottle container. I had to pay 3 Swiss Francs but the counter refused Euro or US$. Go to the bank, exchange Euro in Swiss Francs (I only had a 5 Euro bank note), lose petty money, pay and then board the plane whilst on my way to the gate I passed a number of duty free shops in Zurich airport selling exactly the same brand of whisky as I had been refused to board.

I had a similar experience in India.

I arrived on an international flight, bought duty free on arrival and then went to security for the connecting internal flight.

I was refused entry to the departure area with the duty free in my hand baggage.

I had to go back to check in and ask them to retrieve my bags. Fortunately it was quite a small airport

and I had my bag back within 5 minutes. I then shoehorned the duty free into my suitcase. :o

Fortunately no extra charges.

Air carriage rule on liquid display enforced June 1

BANGKOK: -- Airports throughout Thailand on June 1 began enforcing a requirement that passengers display liquids, gels and sprays in transparent containers in line with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) regulations.

--TNA 2007-06-01

:D I don't know what all the fuss is about - Why do people want to carry so much liquid in their hand luguage anyway.

[...]

The fuss? I'll tell you what the fuss is about!

On the surface of things, all these new regulations seem to make sense. Theoretically, it is possible to make liquid-based explosives which could be brought on board a plane and used by suicidal maniacs. Theoretically, it is possible to hijack a plane with nail-clippers if the passengers have been taught not to fight back by their governments, "for their own good," or even face to criminal charges if they do wind up hurting a criminal/suicidal maniac. Theoretically, it is possible to put explosives in your shoe which might damage a plane if they were detonated in a critical area by a suicidal maniac. Despite the fact that all of these theories have never actually succeeded in bringing down a plane or otherwise shown by unbiased experts to be a genuine threat, people around the world accept them as fact and allow new rules and regulations to be enforced depriving them of their dignity and freedoms.

The fact is that no matter what activity it is you enjoy, from stamp collecting to playing golf, there is bound to be some way that someone could misuse the tools of your trade to do another harm. While we all sit back and acquiesce to these and other idiotic regulations pushed down our throats by the US and its many poodles, we give up more and more of our humanity in the vain hope that we are gaining more security. The same security that our governments have learned to prey on in order to have their ways with an unruly population that used to demand more freedom.

In ancient times, men captured in war were made into slaves. As part of this process, their testicles were removed to make them more docile and less likely to revolt. It seems that technology has provided the means where this is no longer necessary. I leave it as an exercise to the reader as to the specifics of why this is so.

Of what good is security without freedom, anyway?

P.S. Has anyone even considered why there seem to be so many "suicidal maniacs" running around anyway? I mean, is this a genetic aberration or is there another more likely explanation for this?

:o excellent post!!

always the few idiots spoil it for the many........ if you watch all those 9.11/conspiracy theory/new world order etc. videos on youtube or from P2P it is obvious that the whole 'International terrorism' thing is a big fake.... invented and sustained by governments to give themselves more power over the people and take away their rights.... the real terrorists are the governments themselves..........99% are inside jobs

Most americans haven't a clue how bad their own govt. is.... let's all hope they wake up in time....

I flew to Bangkok in April and returned in May.

Australia had already adopted this new liquids restriction policy.

I was traveling with my wife and 2 children (3 years and 14 months).

We were flying JetStar which is a new no-frills airline stemmed from the domestic market, in which you have to purchase everything, no free service.

We learned of the restrictions in Melbourne airport, so we unloaded most of our stuff to a family member there with us.

When arriving at the liquids security check point, we were waved straight through; the security officer making an executive decision believing terrorists wouldn't be carrying two little kids with them.

When going through the same scrutiny in Bangkok we had everything removed from us, except an open bottle of water.

What was removed:

4x250ml UHT milk - Convenient as it is the perfect size for the childs bottle.

2x500ml water bottles (sealed) - To be mixed with the milk formula (sometimes he won't drink the UHT).

Jetstar do provide 200ml water per passenger, but after that we had to purchase milk and water from them.

There is a water fountain on the plane, but who knows what that water is like, and no way for us to boil it.

For many of us with mixed marriages, we are destined to fly so the kids (and wife) get to visit the outlaws.

But more and more average families will decide against flying as it is just getting harder and harder.

I am all for safety, but they need to do better than this.

PS, have you ever ripped an empty aluminium can apart after you finish your drink?

Nice sharp objects there!

Now you can't carry the can on board, but you can always just buy one on the plane!

The fact is that its all based on a trumped up story to get us frightened and continue this crazy war on terror. It was barely mentioned that the houses raided in conjunction with this saga resulted in no liquid explosive being found (only traditional electronic materials found) and the Home secretary admitted as much. However as usual this was almost completely ignored in the mainstream media. Meanwhile we get all the inconvenience and worry caused by such stories. Anyone remember all the cold war rubbish that was spouted? 1984 anyone?

Anyone saying Im prepared to put up with any measures to fight terror should take a long hard look at what the causes really are, i.e. our governments blowing the hel_l out of whomever they feel like. Guess that builds up just a tad of resentment! There is no excuse for acts of terror whoever commits them. Imagine if the hundreds of billions of dollars spent on the Iraq war alone had been used to provide healthcare and education in these "dangerous" countries. I expect there woud be considerable more goodwill around........

Trying to keep us afraid, to keep us under control......

Am I even allowed to speak/think this way these days???? Expecting to be whisked away now by the CIA of that fine bastion of freedom and democracy the good old US of A

Why is Thailand now enforcing a security measure that the Britain and other countries have relaxed?

Is it a response to the Muslim problem in the south?

P.S A note to all the PC brigade. Islam and Muslims do not comprise a 'race'. Therefore pointing out that they are to blame is not racism.

The only trumped up bull is your post. When a bomb explodes killing many people...try telling their loving relatives about the terrorists being their imagination. Psycho morons with bombs have caused this problem. Not the people trying to protect us. You need a wake up call. Maybe a stick of dynamite up your backside would make you realize why security is where it is all over the world.

Following on from the original subject of this post, I would like to give a few pieces of advice to perspective travellers, particularly the guy needing fluid for his contact lens':

1. It is the physical BOTTLE that can not be bigger than 100ml. Simply taking a 250ml bottle and puring out 150ml, so that 100ml remains, is not sufficient and in all likelihood, the bottle will be siezed! At least this is the way they're definitely working it in Oz. So the heads up here, is to make sure your bottle itself is 100ml in size or less.

2. On a recent flight from Thaland to Australia, via Singapore - knowing (or thinking) that liquids bought in duty free were exempt from this new rule, having a King Power duty free discount card, I purchased a 1 litre bottle of duty free alcohol at the airport in Thailand. I was only in transit in Singapore and did not go 'outside' of the transit / departure area. None the less, my bottle was siezed at the gate. After x-ray, seeing a bottle inside my carry on bag, I was sent to an extremely polite & very apologetic policeman, who advised me that it was ONLY duty free purchased in Singapore that was exempt! So, the golden rule now, is only to buy your bottles at the last airport before your final destination.

3. Bottles can be checked in still, as long as they are in your normal checked baggage. I always bring a couple of bottles of wine back when I'm returning from Oz & bought a couple of polystyrene bottle packs from a post office (designed so that bottles of wine can be sent in the mail). I used these, taped them up & put them in a heavy duty garbage bag (just in case) & put them in the middle of my suitcase & in the 2 times I have done this so far, it has worked perfectly & of course the bottle packs are re-usable.

4. As far as I am aware, this new ruling applies only to International flights & domestic flights are exactly the same as before.

Happy travelling!

Just another way of consolidating a monolpoly? Wonder how much of a kick back AOT gets from this decision?

Hey any act of terrorisim is appaling and Im no apologist for it, whether its a suicide bomber on a bus or an american bomber blowing innocent civilians to bits in the name of freedom and democracy. What Im saying is that its time we started seeing our governments for what they are and what they are helping to create.

Imagine you are on the other side and have an occupying force in your country. Your family is wiped out, how angry would you be? Im not saying you become a suicide bomber but this kind of activity which goes on for years, look at what Israel has done to Plaestine for years, truly terrible in anyones book, has to create some reaction, unfortunately of the worst kind. Its about time we started acting like the civilised nations we purport to be, instead of "do as we say not as we do". Lets face it we appear to have learnt nothing from the past, only how to destroy life and property in more effective ways. America has been at war in one way or another in some part of the world every single year since Independance Day.

The "war on terror" is simply an endless war and the west keeps stoking the fires quite deliberately. We are all far more easy to control when we are frightened.

Surely its about time we tried a different way? How about some compassion and humanism? Agressive wars havent acheived much in all the time they have been waged, unless killing millions of people is considered an acheivement? All the terrorist acts as defined in the media are a mere drop in the ocean compared to the blood spilt by the west over the years.

But of course we are the good guys.........please explain how this can be so?

Security is one thing but how our governments actions are making us more secure is beyond me. If you dont indiscriminately kill millions of people, maybe they will have no desire to kill you?

Not sure how this effects taking a bottle of water on a plane though....icon1.gif

While we can all speculate with all sorts of conspiracy theory's, the fact is that this is the rules that we have to live by.

Lets not bitch about it, but try to work out how to work with the new rules to make traveling easier.

Most people on this forum are seasoned travellers, and we can all get a bit pissed of with the rules, but it will not change them.

As far is i understand it, these rules also apply on domestic flights in Thailand.

whiskey were taken from me. Air carriage rule on liquid display enforced June 1

BANGKOK: -- Airports throughout Thailand on June 1 began enforcing a requirement that passengers display liquids, gels and sprays in transparent containers in line with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) regulations.

Journalists early Friday were led by a senior Thai Airways International (THAI) executive to inspect how airline officials apply the newly-imposed regulation setting limits for passengers to carry liquids, gels and sprays aboard their flights at Suvarnabhumi airport.

The new regulation was enforced from 00.01 am (one minute after midnight) Friday after several international carriers, especially those operating European and US routes, followed Britain's lead in adopting the measure after terrorists planned to sabotage commercial airlines departing London's Heathrow and other airports with liquid bombs aboard aircraft.

Under the terms of the regulation, passengers can carry liquid substances in containers not exceeding 100 millilitres with a total combined volume of not over one litre. Each passenger is allowed to carry only one bag of such substance.

However, passengers who purchased goods at duty free shops operated by King Power (contracted for duty free sales and other business at Suvarnabhumi), will be given a clear plastic bag for keeping both the goods they bought and the sales receipt indicating the goods they have purchased.

I'm starting to think all the fuss and scare mongering is just about protecting the 'New world order' from any uprising by trying to justify additional security measures and reducing personal freedoms and nothing to do with peoples best interest at all. We will all carry ID cards then micro chipped before long , we already have iris scans and biometric security systems , tied up with more cctv and survalance gizmos than you could imagine in your wildest dreams.

if only the majority could see how the goverments of the g8 and other American arse lickin states are really viewed from an outside prospetive.

The world is sure getting fkt up.

isnt it time people started saying " well, I really dont want all this" and started voting in presidents and priministers that are actually from the masses and not career polititians with dubious family histories.

I know most of you will all say better safe than sorry.

but as you ought to know deep down, Fear itself is the disease that will lead us all to our destruction.

Is it just me or does that sound like a huge, gaping hole in this security system? So... I bring a bottle of Jack Daniels full of dangerous liquid bombs, go to the duty free store, buy another bottle of Jack Daniels, throw this other bottle away in the rest room, replace it with mine, put it in the clear bag (wow! so secure!), then present my receipt at the x rays...

Don't tell me they'll disallow liquid sales at King Power - King Power would never allow that :o
