ASEAN NOW Content Team
Ansar Ahmad, the governor of Indonesia's Riau Islands, said the "travel bubble" scheme with Singapore, which was originally scheduled for October 2021, has been cancelled due to an increase in Covid-19 cases in the surrounding city-state. The Riau Islands administration is aiming to draw domestic tourists to the province, according to the Antara news agency, pending the central government's decision to revive the travel bubble plan between the province and Singapore in the future, according to the Vietnam news agency (VNA). The provincial government has written to the Ministry of Home Affairs and the National Disaster Mitigation Agency, requesting that the Covid-19 test certificate requirement for inter-province travel be relaxed. Tourism destinations in the Riau Islands have reopened, according to the governor, following an increase in the activities restriction enforcement ranking (PPKM) to Level 1. He assured that local tourism regions had put in place strong health standards to secure the safety and health of visitors, as well as to prevent the emergence of Covid-19 infection clusters.
