Floods inundate Banteay Meanchey and Prey Veng, more to come soon

Featured Replies

The floods in Banteay Meanchey province are still fluctuating due to sporadic rain while over 1,500 families are staying in shelters. National Committee for Disaster Management first vice-president Kun Kim yesterday said Serei Saophorn city and Mongkul Borei district are suffering the most with no improvement of the flooding because just when the water level decreases, then it rains again causing levels to increase once more.

Kim said over 1,500 families have been staying in shelters for more than 15 days with their valuables and cattle supported by authorities. He added that provinces along Tonle Sap Lake are not suffering from flash floods.

Banteay Meanchey provincial governor Um Reatrey confirmed that 48 rural roads equal to 437,000 metres are affected by flash floods while 117,940 metres have been submerged, 66,110 metres were eroded and 16 roads equal to 1,950 metres were destroyed. He said it is still better than last year when 68 roads equal to 764,000 metres were impacted by floods.
