In a dramatic rescue amid torrential rain in Trat province, emergency responders pulled a 24-year-old man from a partially submerged pickup truck and managed to revive him after he was found without a pulse. The incident occurred on the afternoon of 17 July on Highway 3159 between Khao Saming and Sa Yai, near kilometre marker 6–7 in Moo 6, Thung Nonsi subdistrict, Khao Saming district. The vehicle, a Toyota pickup bearing registration number from Chanthaburi, skidded off the rain-slicked road into floodwaters and overturned, leaving the cabin nearly completely submerged. The driver, identified as Mr Peerapol 24, was trapped inside the vehicle and unresponsive when rescue teams arrived. His mother, 46-year-old Ms Jureeporn, who was also in the car, had managed to escape with only minor injuries. Mr Narawit Charankul, a volunteer with the Sawang Boonchuayluea Rescue Foundation in Khao Saming, was first on the scene with his team. He said heavy rain had been falling throughout the night and he had been patrolling known flood-prone areas when he heard the sound of a crash. “I had just taken a photo of the flooding at that exact spot to report it to the authorities,” he said. “Suddenly, we heard the crash and rushed to the scene. The mother had already escaped the vehicle, but her son was still trapped inside and underwater.” Narawit immediately dived into the murky waters and pulled the unconscious man from the vehicle. “He had no pulse. We performed CPR for about 10 minutes right there at the roadside. Finally, he came around, he had a pulse and was able to respond when we talked to him.” An ambulance from Khao Saming Hospital soon arrived and took Mr Peerapol for further treatment. Medical personnel credited the rescue team’s swift response and tenacity with saving his life. Later, Mr Peerapol’s father arrived at the scene. He confirmed that his son and wife had been travelling from Nong Bon subdistrict, Bo Rai district, heading to Trat Hospital for a routine medical check-up. Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash. What started as a routine day turned into a full-blown bomb squad operation as police scrambled to secure the area in the quiet coastal town. The drama unfolded around 11.30am yesterday, July 16, when a vigilant resident noticed a suspicious object near a rubbish bin opposite Amnat Timber Shop in Village 4, Hin Lek Fai subdistrict. The prompt alert sparked a major public safety scare. Hua Hin Police Station officers, upon arrival, quickly cordoned off the site. They called in the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team and rescue workers from the Phetkasem Foundation to handle the situation. Alarmingly, the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team found a stash of live explosives, including a one-pound M112 block of C4 plastic explosive, an anti-personnel mine, and a live M61 fragmentation grenade. Adding to the danger, approximately 100 ccorroded 30 calibre carbine rounds were found. The explosives were confirmed to be functional and posed a severe threat to public safety. The bomb squad meticulously removed and secured the weapons for safe disposal. A comprehensive investigation is now underway to uncover who is responsible for abandoning the deadly cache. Authorities are combing through CCTV, questioning locals, and urging the public to assist in nabbing the culprits, according to Hua Hin Today. “There was no damage or injuries reported, but it could have been catastrophic,” commented a Hua Hin police officer. “We are treating this matter with the utmost seriousness.” The unnerving discovery has shaken residents, especially given the potential for mass casualties had the bombs detonated in the area. Police urge those with any information to come forward and aid their investigation.
