Just drove by and noticed that all's changed at the airport. Seemingly since the 27th of last month.

I didn't have time to stop and investigate but at a quick glance it seems that we now have 3 specific venues, i.e. The original area is now the International/connecting area, and two new area's have sprung up designated as domestic arrivals and domestic departures.

Is this correct?

I came in yesterday into the new airport - Must say that this new airport is noting on the old one. All the charm of the old arrivals hall is gone

The place is also still a building site and should not have been opened for at least another month or two.

anyone else feel the same

Drove around the airport and very confessing and yes it looks to be about 2 months from finished. There are two ways into the New Arrival , one your will see a sign that reads "Samui Airport " the other is just a sign that tells you it is the arrival hall. Was told we can look around on top but not to go down below

If you are leaving international, the old airport & you do your immigration there. If you are leaving by Jet,you will be met at the gate in Bangkok & escorted through to international transfers , if by prop you will be taken bu bus.

Came back domestic, after arrival ,was ferried back to car park.

2 seperate car parks one for taxis & mini buses & one for private cars.

Now I know where my 8000 baht return fare I pay 10 times a year is going. What an over indulgent waste of money it is. All so the tourists will ooh and aah when they arrive and say what a lovely quaint airport this is.

And who the hel_l planned the new airport, you have to check in in one building then get in one of the buses which transports you about 100 meters to another departure building. Why they could not have just built a path from one to the other I don't know.

All we need from an airport is somewhere to land, get off and somewhere to get and take off then maybe the Bangkok airways extortion racket would not be necessary and we could be paying reasonable fares like in the rest of Thailand.

Now we have such a large airport there must be plenty of capacity for more flights from other airlines and therefore competition but I'm sure the monopoly and extortion will continue.

I love Samui and at the moment it is not convienient to move for a couple of yeas but the first chance I get I'm off to Phuket. I'm sick of paying these ridiculous prices.

Rant over.

I flew in from Phuket and the strange thing about using the new facilities is that they are not close to being complete (I dearly hope). It's just a shell. They have been working on this for over a year and why they decided to move now is beyond me.

My bet is that they will flatten the old terminal and facilities. For what it's worth.....

At present the runway from the northern end (where the terminal is) has a displaced threshold which means that on landing from the North there is a reduced length available. This is because of obstacles i.e. old Terminal in the approach Funnel. The ground where the old terminal is sited is also above the level of the runway, about 20-30 ft.

Bringing the level down and getting rid of the obstacles may allow this length of runway to be used for landing at this end.

The funnel calculations do not affect the take off from this end. But take off from the Southern end is affected by the Terminal obstacle as well, as it impinges on the Take off funnel.

So to get to the point, I think that the extra runway which could become available by levelling this end

might allow the A320 to operate with a decent payload into/out of here. It will also help the performance calculations on the 717 should longer sectors be required.

Don't know if the new houses near the North end will be affected. But, from the comfort of ones' sitting room it might be possible to enjoy an interesting and close up view of an A320 undercarriage and tyre condition during a strong crosswind.

Just a theory!

Not a far fetched one either, since they are replacing all the 717's with A 320's.
