Prime Minister Hun Sen has called on  line officials and competent authorities as well as medical practitioners to find ways to reduce the mortality rate of COVID-19.

Speaking at  the closing ceremony of the national COVID-19 vaccination campaign for the age group from 6 years old and above (1st dose) and the launching ceremony of the vaccination campaign for children aged 5, held at the Peace Palace yesterday, he  said that until October 31,  Cambodia had in total 118,522 cases of COVID-19, or 0.74 percent of the total population, of them 2,788 people or 0.017 percent have died.

The  Prime Minister said if compared between the percentage of the positive and mortality cases with that of some other regional and global nations, the mortality rate in Cambodia is a bit higher. According to him, the mortality rate in Cambodia is higher than that in the U.S., UK, Nepal, India, Malaysia and Thailand and that is why the Kingdom has to improve the medical capacity to respond to the pandemic.

2788/118522 = 2.35%

Which is indeed higher than neighboring countries but no surprise given the level of curative care in Cambodia.

One assumes they are referring to the percentage of the total population that has died from Covid-19.

Cambodia's current population is 17,025,929.
2788/17,025,929 = approximately 0.017%.

I'm surprised this wasn't obvious to such a smart lady.????
