Thailand was one of the countries that did not commit to a COP26’s goal to end deforestation, prompting concern from environmental quarters.

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha did not commit to stopping and reversing deforestation and land degradation by 2030 at the COP26 climate conferences, despite over 100 nations adopting the vow.

This week, Prayut attended the World Leaders Summit, which is part of the 26th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP26) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in Glasgow, United Kingdom.

He needs to get his hardwood floors redone in rosewood before he'll consider this.  40 some years ago I saw a house belonging to a forestry official.  All the wood was gorgeous, endangered stuff that no doubt fell off the truck on its way to the evidence locker.

The Chinese masters want rare woods for furniture for their kids and heirs.

No surprise with that decision, they have no intention of protecting the planet, there's to much money involved....

It could well be since he was also at the latest meeting of the Center for COVID-19 Situation Administration.

In Thaikland nothing will change ever...  every year same copies for extension visa, or anything you want driverslicense, the use too much paper instead of starting to have decent computerfiles. Than they want their forests on the world heritage list, but they will  ot follow the rules and make resorts in it.

This Government has its mouthful as we saw the last days that there is no planet B , that they will do things , but we all know, nothing will happen, airpollution will worsen, no solar and wind energy, or electric cars, but burning ricefields, deforesting for their luxury houses and paper and for places to build houses wich will not be sold....there are already too many houses

Waste of time signing that agreement he knows by 2030 all the forests will be gone

If it is for his retirement home I would let him have them!

That will stop all the tree huggers coming.

Burn, baby, burn.  Gotta have the red eyes, scarred lungs and incessant coughing—just like big brother China.

Oh yes, and keep jacking the Baht, for good measure.

That says all ...

Where we live , the locals just go to the national forests and cut the big trees to sell the wood . No police or whatever to stop them ... but who needs big and old trees ? Oh , wait ...

Thailand planning to be the Hub of the illegal hardwood industry.

Save trees eat a beaver.

Yet the other day the PM was committed to end destruction of the environment hence my comment there about local trees being cut down. Yep, no intention of doing anything to help the environment.

Was there any point in this bloke flying to Glasgow in his private jet ? I find it hard to believe that any of the other leaders would take him seriously.

I don't know why Thailand didn't sign.  It's not like they would ever follow it.

Papers are from eucalyptus trees grown here and are plantation species.

And don't forget Vietnam, a lot of burning there.

This recent contribution is part of USAID’s wider Environmental Remediation program, which seeks to decontaminate areas with high concentrations of residual Agent Orange throughout Vietnam. USAID has already completed a major decontamination project in Danang, which remediated 32.4 hectares between 2012 and 2018 at a cost of $110 million.

Good for him. Signing some pointless agreement that will only be followed by those whose situation makes it relatively easy to comply with and possibly impossible, or at least difficult, for Thailand to do with their limitted resources only sets them up to be shamed and embarrassed when they fail.

Rich demanding that poor suffer to satisfy their hypocritical whims disgusts me. I am all for protecting the environment, but the simplistic views of a bunch of pompous jackasses that fly hundreds of private jets to a conference and talk about what everyone else should be doing to protect the environment should be treated with the contempt they deserve.

Isn't burning trees accepted as renewable energy by the greens.

What this space - Army hands out mining leases on army controlled land in return for royalties.

Another "hair on fire" click-bait climate change article.

Why didn't Thailand sign?

Honestly, there is no telling because the article does not articulate what was in

whatever they think should have been signed.

But it is for the environment. Whatever it says it must be agreed to without question. No need for logic or sense, even Leo DiCaprio was there and approved. 555

Sure, but if Indonesia and Russia, two of the most corrupt countries on the planet, can sign it then you'd think Thailand would have felt very much at home with this agreement, lol.

The green activist groups need to start a social media campaign advising people that Thailand has refused to sign the pact and will continue exploiting its endangered forests, and asking them to consider again if they really want to go to such a selfish place for their holidays. Add the 2065 net zero target for a country that has a highet average GDP per head than mighty China, and the place should be looking quite unattractive to environmentally concerned people.
