Rca Area Of Bkk To Main Highway South

Recommended Posts

Greetings All, need some help from you bangkokians or other learned posters. I've driven all over Thailand but always stayed away from BKK. I have to pick up my new Triumph from the RCA area of bangkok and need to get to main highway south. I know you cant ride on the expressways and the maps I have don't give me any help either. Can anyone give me some names to be heading for to get me out of town. Cheers in anticipation Dunc :o

You're getting a brand new Triumph and taking it straight into Bangkok traffic?? Good luck!

Anyway, up Phetchaburi Rd, left onto Ratchadamri Rd contine along Silom, across Thaksin Bridge and head for Dao Khanong and then onto Ram II and head south. Easy.

As an option you could also ask whoeveryou're buying the thing from to give both you and the bike a lift to somewhere in the south of the city giving you easy access to the route south.

On a brand new Triumph, not knowing Bangkok no way. I drive (car) most days in BKK, and still manage to get on a wrong road occassionally. And, if you do anything wrong, not knowing the rules, the boys in brown will stop you immediately. Easy for the dealer to arrange someone to drop you and the bike off down south. Enjoy!

Thanks guys I'll certainly ask for it to go to somewhere out of town. If not I may get a taxi bike to slowly take me out of town. I've ridden all over Thailand but just never needed or wanted to enter BKK, though it cant be much worse than London. At least here they are aware that there are things called motorbikes on the road as well. I'll let you know how I get on. Cheers Dunc

Youd be surprised Dunc. Motorbikes are seen as a nuisence (sp?) here and are seen as targets i think! Its a thousand percent safer riding your bike in London than in Bangkok. Trust me, ive been doing it in both places for years!

The route to get to Rama 2 rd without using the expressway is a real nightmare. I would suggest, as others have to get them to meet you outside Bangkok. Actually, to be honest i would go to the shop to check everything is in order first, and then ride with them in their truck to Central Rama 2. You dont want to arrange to meet them to collect the bike and then discover something amiss. Doing it in the shop will keep your level head on rather than your riding head!

Have you picked up your bike yet? Which model? Are you happy with the shop? I am intertested in buying Daytona 675 from that shop.

Thanks

John

PS if you need a fully licensed and expericed test rider, who knows the way, to get your bike to Central Rama 2..................

Bike looks great. Yes I have been to the shop and so far been very impressed. Good prices too - considering import tax rates (The owner is a well known TV star / singer - best of luck to him. Buy British!).

Still deciding on the Daytona. Dedicated Sports bike fan - but don't really have enough riding time to justify 500 000 + Baht on a bike! Very very tempting though! 2002 R1's are half that price - but not as unique!

Have great a ride south. Where is you final desitnation?

John
