Cheers steve, just one question for a non-native Phuketer, what do they mean by the Laguna area?

Am working on getting hubby to take a few days off and go to Phuket and the lure of good Indian food might work as one of the inducements :o

Hey SmartEcosse you could always get some lentils and make dahl yourself!!!!!! I used to use the little packets of 'Red Train' curry powder and it was lovely. I'll give you the recipe if you like!!!!

Oh and the Green Man pub in Chalong does some curry nights but I think the dishes are based on colonial tastes - ie served with small side plates of grated coconut and raisins etc.

Forgot to say that you could also try Kana Sutra run by Billy Chima in Phuket City - tell him you are a mate of Seonai and Khall and he'll be nice to you! He may deliver - the food's great, chef from Kathmandu but he knows how to cook!! You might even find a review of Kana Sutra by myself if you google search it in Phuket Magazine. If I remember rightly the restaurant is wrongly referred to as 'Karma Sutra' in my article 'cos a lovely, sweet editor in BKK edited it without asking me.

Hey seonai, glad to see you back :o

Anyway, where is the Kana Sutra located in Phuket town? How do their prices run? (ie pricey or not?)

Hey Riz... nice teeth!!!! You can get lentils in big super markets or at local Thai shops selling rice just in Rachada Road in Phuket City. 'Tua leuang' - yellow beans. The powder you can get in all the places around Chalong circle - that is 'Rot Fai Deng samrap tam ahan'. Enjoy them!!!!! Cook it up with some carrots, garlic etc.

Hi SBK, good to hear from you too!!!! Kana Sutra verges on the pricey if you compare it to other places nearby but it's jus so beautiful. The chef is good and will even do low fat stuff etc. Billy's Mum did most of the decor, mosiacs and little lights and there's a sort of 'harum' stage where you can be served while leaning on Indian pillows! Tell Billy I sent you - if he's not there he'll be in Michael's Bar next door!!!!! Just ask the waitresses. x

Bit off topic SBK but not far from Kana Sutra there are two extremely cheap Thai veggie places which are EXCELLENT. Salvatores on the roundabout is fabulous Italian too but more pricey. YUM !!!!!! I have my appetite back!!!!!!

Riz I think they have them in that supermarket in Central, down near the meats counter on a stand-alone shelf in the middle near some Thai pastes

You can get lentils and lots of prepackaged spices in Carefour (first isle that is half dry half frozen foods). Tops in Central also has them but not as big a selection (not in the stand alone counter last I checked (which does have some Tops brand dried beans), but down one of the isles that also sells packaged dried beans. They have indian spice packs also.

Enjoy!

Hi all,

In Kata there is a small place, it is where all the tailors and other Indian, Pakistaini and Nepaleese go to eat. The prices are reasonable of course, much better then the tourist places and I have never seen a tourist in there. Of course it is empty before 21:00pm because the regulars are all working.

It is on Koktanod Road just opposite the Serene Resort (I think that is the name, a big hotel but very well hidden- if only all resorts were built with the same consideration-). If you are at the T intersection comming from lets say Capanina then you would make a left on Koktanod Road (the one with the firestation on it) and its no more then 100 meters on the left. Next to a massage place and a coffee hut. There is a sign too. The place is white with lots of lovely flourescent lights.

But the food is good, worth trying Not sure if they use mSG, it was bit salty butnext time I will just ask them not to put msg or not to make it to salty They speak English well so Im sure that little request wont be a problem.

I think the women who work there/ own it are Indians from Burma but I am not sure...... looks like a Mom and some daughters.

They also sell a few indian-food ingredients.
