Eleven Cambodians involved in Poipet shootout sent to Court

The 11 Cambodian suspects arrested on Saturday in connection with the Poipet shootout have been sent to the Banteay Meanchey Provincial Court for questioning yesterday. The incident between a group of Cambodians and another comprising Thai national at a pub in front of Paradise Casino in Poipet commune’s Kbal Spean 1 village at 11.23 pm,  resulted in four people, including three military police officers, being wounded.

 

Eleven people were arrested and Poipet city military police have mounted a manhunt for more suspects. Banteay Meanchey Provincial Court deputy prosecutor Samrith Sokhon told Khmer Times yesterday that the suspects will be detained temporarily at the provincial military police headquarters pending the questioning today.

 

They will be questioned under ‘intentional violence with aggravating circumstances’ where if found guilty, they will face two to five years in prison .

Poipet city military police commander Major Nuon Nynaro told Khmer Times yesterday that the suspects were arrested at about 12am on Saturday when during the exchange of shots, the three military officers sustained injuries. He added the Thai suspects fled to Thailand.
