There was a time when no one in their right mind would risk falling into a Bangkok klong.

The famous canals in the Thai capital were so black and filthy that people used to joke that instant death awaited with one false step.

But at the weekend dozens of people were prepared to get into kayaks to promote tourism and the continuing clean-up by the Bangkok Metropolitan Adiministation, reported FM91.

This was the "We Change by Chatuchak" event after cooperation between the BMA and the northern Bangkok district of Chatuchak to clean up Klong Ladprao.

The kayakers numbering 118 in 70 boats were helping to collect litter along a 10.78 kilometer stretch.

Whom did they think they would infect?

I just assumed they were masked up in order to prevent the nasty water from splashing into their mouths.
