We just got an email from someone in our Belgian office asking us to tell them which countries are in our European Region and which in Asia ;-)

Sorry to our American friends in advance but the reaction from one of the Singaporeans was, "So its not just Americans then"

My boss just said, "I give up"

I am feeling a bit sorry for her now as this email was sent to all the research heads globally ;-)

By her and not a viral email though.

The worst part though this is for an audit - checking which countries are where??????

Now this is probably a stretch, but maybe Russia confused her? "Asia? Europe? Asia? Europe?" she pondered.....

And, yes, I'm American. :-)

This from yesterday's Bangkok Post.

According to a recent survey, 60 per cent of Britons could not pick out on a map where they had spent their overseas holidays the previous year. It seems that going ''abroad'' was sufficient enough and it didn't really bother them too much if they had been to Greece or Grand Cayman, Togo or Thailand. As long as it was sunny and there was plenty of booze it was all right.

So, no, it's not just Americans. It seems that Geography is no longer taught in British schools, probably replaced by social studies into inter racial problems of the ethnic minorities.

My nephew's American company flew him from Australia to Spain via the US because the woman doing the booking thought Sydney was in New Zealand.

Doesn't seem like such a stupid question depending on your companies organisational structure. Is Ukraine and Russia in Asia or Europe? What about Turkey etc... A companies organisational structure doesn't always follow who's counted as being in the EU, Also I have seen instances where Australia and New Zealand are actually overseen by the European HQ, rather than Asian HQ.

I am reading a book by Steve Jones called the Single Helix. In it he relates how he was asked by a lady on learning he was from the UK if he had met her brother who was living in the France-England region.
