Online gambling scrounge spreads across country as more complaints emerge on forced slave-like labour

Despite hundreds of Thai nationals, 41 Indonesian nationals and small numbers of other foreign nationals being rescued by police from online gambling syndicates, the scrounge seems to be spreading across the country.

 

Police officials familiar with the matter said that after Khmer Times series of expose, 41 Indonesian nationals were successfully feed from what was termed China Project in Sihanoukville while hundreds more were freed in various provinces bordering Thailand where physical and online gambling, though the latter being illegal, is flourishing.

 

“Greed for easy money and promises of an almost expense free employment with tremendous perks should have set off alarm bells but yet, many Thais and other nationals are continuing to be duped into slave like working conditions where torture, beatings, assault, cramped living conditions and even sexual assault are frequent,” the officials said.
