Popular Post webfact
File photo: REUTERS With the so-called burning season approaching officials from the Bangkok Metropolitan Authority were out in force checking facilities that measure air quality in the Thai capital. There are 70 points in various guises across Bangkok's 50 districts. BMA official Khajit Chachawanich led a team to the Nong Saem area of western Bangkok where in November and early December readings had already been over the safe limit. It was noted that the average so far since the beginning of November was 25 micrograms across the whole city. Measures are underway to ensure that trash burning is accomplished properly and that smoke emitting vehicles are checked and taken off the roads. Cooperation was also sought with the police over keeping the traffic flowing and not allowing parking in restricted areas. Roads will be washed and vacuumed and leaves will be washed of dust so that they can trap dust floating in the air. No mention was made of one of the underlying reasons for the smoke and haze - the burning of crops and stubble outside the city.
