Fourth booster shot proposed in fight against Omicron variant

Cambodia is likely to give a fourth vaccine dose in 2022 since Omicron has been designated as a variant of concern (VoC) by the World Health Organization (WHO) because it has multiple mutations that may have an impact on how it behaves. The vaccine is still effective to prevent Omicron infections.

 

Health Ministry secretary of state Or Vandine said yesterday that Covid-19 is a virus that fully converts itself to other kinds of variants. It has already mutated many times such as Alpha, Gamma, Delta and more. She also said people who are fully vaccinated to get a booster shot as soon as they are eligible.

 

“We should get the fourth dose because the Covid-19 variant will transform to a disease like the common cold and it will perhaps be a bit more serious,” said Vandine. “We are waiting for the scientists’ study for technical advice about how long after getting the third dose it is effective.”
