BANGKOK (NNT) - The government has set up a fact-finding committee to investigate the controversial Chana Industrial Estate project now facing pushback from a group of protestors.

Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha appointed Deputy Prime Minister Supattanapong Punmeechaow as head of the fact-finding committee. The industrial city development project in Chana of Songkhla involves the rezoning of agricultural areas.

The committee will be looking into the Triangle of Prosperity, Stability, and Sustainability model city campaign, which was the original project but was later extended to include Chana as the model city for future industries.

Government Spokesman Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana said a government-appointed working committee was earlier dispatched to collect information from the project site, in order to inform members of the Cabinet on the persisting issues.

He noted every process of the development project must take into consideration local people’s concerns, and that any decisions made must be fair, transparent, and beneficial to all.

"Rezoning agricultural land".

In other words take farmer's land to build your factories, it's much cheaper ( you can pay rock bottom prices) than looking for and paying the market price for existing industrial sites.

And of course the dispossessed farmers will be available as cheap labour to work in those factories.

A sound plan!

Who wouldn't want a waste to energy power plant in their backyard?

'464 rai of land from locals for a total value of 110 million baht; 450 rai were quickly bought by this company for 271 million baht at the end of that month,' bought by agents/family acting for Deputy Interior Minister Nipon Boonyamanee.  In Civilised Counties this is called Insider Trading.

You aren't the only one who doesn't think highly of him.

I think this article says it for you: https://nbtworld.prd.go.th/en/news/detail/TCATG210216142751908

Quote

The Deputy Minister of Transport, Nipon Boonyamanee, "lacks honesty, morality and ethics, and abuses his power for personal gain and for the benefit of his associates."

Has some choice words for some of the others too.
