Hi all,

My girfriend has today applied for a 6 month Visitors visa to the UK. After applying she was given back her documents and passport.

But they kept the original of her employment letter, a photocopy of her passport and her passport photo and was told that she would receive a a call on Monday or Tuesday.

What does this mean?

Any help would be greatly appreciated as we all know this is a very nerve racking time..

Sounds strange... are you sure she went to UKVisas office or was she possibly intercepted by a tout from an agent and take to an agents office? They operate around the UKVisas building.

i'm sure she went to the UKVisa office, as she was there on Monday, however her letter of employment did not have a company stamp on it, so she was told to get it stamped and to return on Thursday with it, which is what she has done.

Could it be that they want to check the validity of the letter?

Is there any way of tracking the Visa process online and is every applicant given a application number?

Hi Eamon,

The touts that mahout Angrit mentioned operate from the same building as the visa centre, so it feasible that your girlfriend has been waylaid. The visa centre should not be taking in half-applications: either it's lodged or it's not. In order to track your girlfriend's application, you will need her passport number and visa centre reference which will be on the receipt and begins thac/........

Thanks for your response. I was very surprised when she told me that they did not take her passport, as this would be needed to issue the visa. It sounds like she may have gone to the wrong place moreso as she did not get a reference number..gutted!!.

What would you recommend that we do now? Just apply at the right place?

What will the touts do with the passport photocopy, photos and fee?

will this affect our application at the right place?

Thanks

It does seem like she was intercepted, the VAC is just a reception centre, they check whether she has presented the correct documents, they are not really bothered about the quality (like whether it has a stamp or not). This will be picked up when the embassy scrutinise the application.

Also to tell your wife to come back on a specific day (Thursday) is unlikely if it was the VAC as they are open every day and as Scouse says they either accept the application or reject it (in which case they would advise her to return when she has the application complete.)

If she has paid all the fees complete (including the touts services) she may as well let them continue to handle it as I think she will have to do some good talking to get any money refunded. If she can get the visa fee refunded it shouldn't affect the application at the right place

Oh and if you are in a hurry for the visa she should present it on Monday as the VAC will be closed for the week beginning 15th June. Good luck.

Thanks for all your messages.

I totally agree with your comments. My gf only paid the visa fee, she did not pay for any other services.

I think I will get her to call the VAC on Monday to check if any applications have been made under her passport number. If not, then she will reapply at the right place.

I will get my gf to apply at the right place this time.

How can she ensure that she is applying at the right place this time?

I appreciate all your advice, Thanks.

Make sure she goes to the address of the UK VAC on the second floor.

Thanks for all your help.

Today I got my gf to call up the VAC to find out if an application had been lodged under her name and passport number. As it turns out an application had been made and she made it herself..lol. The reason why she did not get a reference number was because she left thinking that she was not needed anymore, so didn't get the reference number or receipt and they didnt take her passport.

Today she went back, got the reference number, receipt, they took all her documents, passport and told her to come back in 3 days to collect it. I hope she gets the Visa!!

Going back to my first post where I mentioned the VAC checked all her documents and asked her to get the employment letter stamped with the company stamp and to return on Thursday. Just for reference that they are doing this now, and getting applicants to come back on specific days and to see the same person again. Maybe its just to speed up the process and to prevent the applicant from having to wait for hours just to submit a single document. This is what happened to her anyways.

Thanks for all your help. I will be back on in 3 days once she has collected her passport, and hopefully there is a visa in there..Thanks.
