Popular Post Jonathan Fairfield
Pheu Thai Party leader Chonlanan Srikaew called on Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha today (Saturday) to dissolve parliament and hold a general election to pave the way for a peaceful transfer of power to a new government elected through fully democratic means. He predicted that the coming year will be a rough ride for the government politically, economically and socially, which will shake its stability to the core, citing its inability to hold parliamentary meetings due to lack of quora, despite the fact that the government commands the majority in the House of Representatives. If an important piece of legislation, such as the loan bill, is to be debated in the House and the government cannot control its MPs to ensure there is a quorum for the meeting, the chance is that the government will be held accountable if the meeting collapses, said Chonlanan. At a press conference today (Saturday), the Pheu Thai party listed five other destabilising factors to be confronted by the government next year. Not only that we must condemn foreign powers funding, it is also illegal under the Thailand Organic Act on Political Parties. Any large donations are also illegal under the Act and party can be dissolved. Rather foolhardy for any party to involved in foreign fundings and risk party dissolution.

Fat chance of that ever happening. Prayut may at some stage step down but his successor will be a chosen one.. and he's already speaking up.
tomacht8
the prime minister’s term will end on August 24th 2022, citing Sections 158 and 264 of the Constitution which, in essence, state that an individual cannot hold the premiership for more than eight years. Let's see if Prayut sticks to his self-written constitution. Bitwin already accepts bets?
zzaa09
A complete and generational cleansing needs to take place, in some miraculous manner. Otherwise, all of the sideshow political theatre is moot. Same as it ever was.

How do you place the military under the control of a fairly elected government? It's the military that created the first government (a Constitutional Monarchy), so they will always have the ultimate control. It's pretty hard to imagine any scenario that can change this. It's hardly worth discussing it. It's how things are and how they will stay. Edited December 26, 2021 by JensenZ
