Omicron Cases Soar

BANGKOK, Dec 27 (TNA) – The number of people infected with the Omicron variant of COVID-19 is soaring with clusters in many provinces, according to the Center for COVID-19 Situation Administration.

 

CCSA assistant spokesperson Apisamai Srirangson said there were 2,437 new COVID-19 cases over the past 24 hours. Meanwhile, 3,845 patients fully recovered and were discharged from hospitals.

Well....couldn't have come at a worse time if you are a human or the best time for the virus.

 

After the new year it will be in every nook and cranny of Thailand and pretty much everyone is going to be exposed to it. Positive cases are obviously going to skyrocket.

 

I just hope it is as ' mild ' as we are being told and that after several months swimming around at a low level in our blood stream looking for weakness , it doesn't deliver a sucker punch that really screws us up.

For the first time since the covid crisis  started I now know people  who are infected. Family  members in UK and service staff at music bars and G clubs in Pattaya....four of which had to close for deep cleaning while staff and management went to hospital.

Thailand will not be able to halt the spread of Omicron. 

 

It will come into Thailand via the porous borders from Myanmar, which in turn has porous borders into India. 

 

They may well make some tokenism gestures like ban tourism, urge people to wash hands - but the major thing they need to do is make sure everyone is vaccinated, and have their medical system working at full capacity. 

 

Anything else will be just delaying the inevetible.

They have predicted that it could go to 20k to 30k a day early 2022. If they know that already I am wondering why they don't cancel the celebrations and travelling..Should it be the same as Songkran? with all the restrictions that will follow...

Allegations are 2.4 to 3 days.  IT could be much quicker, now couldn't it?  And how many people get it with zero symptoms?  They think probably lots.  The only way to know will be some time down the road when they can study this and the dust settles when the pandemic is over.

It doesn't matter what we hope for, the virus will do what it does.  But I will provide some hope for myself  - it is very benign (to vaccinated), it provides herd immunity so I am pleased that it is spreading.  Even if I wasn't pleased it was spreading it will continue to do what it does.  

I am more afraid of spiders than omicron.  Personal opinion and I will stand by it.

Will still take quite a long time to get covid statistically, so still time to get a booster.

Omicron however changed the game plan quite a bit.

It took approximately 630 days to reach 600.000 confirmed cases.

 

The last 9 days we added more than 100.000 confirmed cases.....

 

That little virus is one hell of a stubborn devil.

Agreed but even with restrictions it will not slow it down by hardly anything at all.  So in a sense you are getting your wish as am I.  

Only the uneducated can't see how no restrictions we can enforce will ever slow this spread.

Last I heard, it had 50% of the hospitalization rate of Delta. If that's the case, it'll be quite a cf.

 

If it's no worse than the common cold, it'll be herd immunity, and that'll be great, we can get back to the old normal.

It also emphasised that although a smaller proportion of people with omicron could end up in hospital than with previous variants, the actual number becoming seriously ill and needing hospital care could be huge, because of the variant’s increased transmissibility.

The agency’s chief executive, Jenny Harries, said, “Cases are currently very high in the UK, and even a relatively low proportion requiring hospitalisation could result in a significant number of people becoming seriously ill. The best way that you can protect yourself is to come forward for your first two doses of vaccine, or your booster jab, and do everything you can to stop onward transmission of the infection.”

Poor thias are put into field hospitals, richer ones pay or are insured enough to go into a private hospital & foreigners are put into private hospitals at their own expense or the the expense of their insurance companies.

Most of the rest of the world only send their vulnerable & sick to hospital when they have rona

That's why the best indicator of how serious the cases are is to look at how severely ICU units are stressed. For example:

On the uk news today they said they had 8000 in hospital now with this wave, in the last wave they had 35,000 in hospital ! And death rate for omicron (29) is less than 1/2 a person per million so far - that seems pretty good to me considering the likelihood most deaths are unvaccinated or other health issues

TUI nordic have cancel all fligths to thailand until april next year.30.000 passengers is affected of this.Thailand should never open in november.I think this will hit thailand hard after new year.

They changed that policy already, not every one who tests positive is in 2 week quarantine .people with no symptoms isolate at home.

Daily totals reported are dropping but then they say many clusters happening and rising. Maybe there is a week's time lag from testing to entering the system?

With New Year this weekend, mass travel towards the end of the week... large public gatherings, family get-togethers, and partying what could possibly go wrong?
