TAK (NNT) - Soldiers from the 14th Ranger Regiment stationed at the Thai-Myanmar border have been assisting communities and residents affected by the ongoing conflict in neighboring Myanmar.

On Monday, Major Gen Prasan Saengsirirak, Commander of Naresuan Force, visited a temporary camp in Mae Sot district of Tak province to show his support to soldiers of the 14th Ranger Regiment, which has been stationed near the border to monitor the situation. He traveled to Meun Leu Chai village in Phrob Phra district to deliver construction materials and other essentials to local villagers whose homes had been damaged by airstrikes.

Soldiers from Naresuan Force are currently looking after people fleeing from the ongoing conflict, while also repairing homes and fortifying bomb shelters in border villages. Additionally, the troops have been helping people crossing the border into safe areas and assisting those who wish to return to Myanmar.

According to one source, more than 5,000 people have crossed the border and sought safety in Mae Sot district after violence between Myanmar’s security forces and the Karen resistance movement escalated over the last three days. 5,384 villagers reportedly crossed the Moei River into Thailand after the Myanmar army launched airstrikes and fired artillery rounds into the Karen stronghold on Saturday.
