A male elephant has succumbed to its injuries after being involved in a fight with a larger rival on Boxing Day.

An elephant known as Nga Uan Lek had been involved in a fight over a female with the bigger beast called Yo Yo.

Park officials and vets who found and examined the injured elephant a few days later discovered that it had almost lost its tail and had six stab wounds from being gored with tusks.

Despite treatment Nga Uan Lek has now died - possibly from sepsis, reported Thai Rath

He was found deceased by a creek not far from the Khao Yai visitor center yesterday.
