3.2 Currency

There is no limit on the amount of Thai currency which can be brought into Thailand, but only 50,000 baht may be taken out without obtaining a permit. When carrying Thai currency to neighboring countries, e.g., Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, Malaysia, and Vietnam, up to 500,000 baht, may be taken out without obtaining a permit.

Carrying out an amount of Thai currency which exceeds the above stated limit requires a permit from an authorized bank. The original permit (Thor-Tor. 5) must be shown to the Customs officer while passing through the outbound passenger channel.

There is no restriction on both bringing in and carrying out foreign currency.

Cash Limits For Thailand

There is no limit to the amount of money that can be brought into Thailand, however, if the amount of money brought into the Kingdom in notes and coins is over 2 million Thai Baht then you will need to report this to AMLO (Anti-Money Laundering Office). A form will need to be completed and submitted to them. As a result they may instigate an investigation. Details can be found here: Cash Transaction Report

There is also no limit on the amount of Thai currency which can be brought into

If you bring in a large amount of Euros or USD DECLARE IT! This is for amounts up to USD 5 million.

If you do not declare it and for some reason it is caught in your possession you will be in deep deep trouble! This means talking to the AMLO or the local DEA.

If you declare it and want to deposit it in a bank in Thailand you can still have a problem as depositing more than 2 million or eqivalent in baht will require the bank to formally give notice to The Bank of Thailand that you have made this deposit.

Normally this is not a problem as the Bank of Thailand want people to bring large amounts of money into Thailand "for investment". Don't be surprised if the BoT do a background check on you in your home country.

Of course there are intelligent ways to handle this who sort of thing. If you PM me I will tell about it.

$US10,000 and above ( or other currency equivalent ) must be declared to Thai Customs to be able to take the funds out of Thailand on departure.

If you plan to take the foreign currency out again you must declare values over US$10,000 on arrival.

Your ATM Card will work fine.

But first you must be initiated into the Secret Society Of the Walking ATM Farang.

Just apply at any Bar.
