webfact
File photo Thailand on Saturday (January 22) reported 8,122 new COVID-19 cases, 7,582 recoveries and 19 additional deaths over the past 24 hours. ▶︎ Infections outside prisons: 7,935. Prisons: 177 ▶︎ Recoveries: 7,582 Saturday’s cases bring the total number of COVID-19 infections in Thailand to 2,369,814 with 22,019 deaths. The news comes as subsequent jabs of COVID-19 vaccines may cause undesirable effects if they are administered too early, a viral expert has warned. Prof Dr Yong Poovorawan, head of the Center of Excellence in Clinical Virology at Chulalongkorn University, wrote on Facebook that many people asked about proper doses of COVID-19 vaccination and some people even said they had already received five shots comprising the first two jabs of. the Sinovac vaccine, followed by a jab of AstraZeneca and then two shots of Moderna. Some people said they did not count their initial Sinovac jabs. Mr Derek
According to this study https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4605410/ the annual average number of deaths from influenza in Thailand (study period 2006-2011) was 13,554 (= 37 deaths per day). So Covid-19 is now only half as dangerous as ordinary flu. Can we please stop this paranoia now and get back to normal life?
Bkk Brian
Upward trend in infections keeps Thailand under Covid alert level 4 Thailand will remain under Covid-19 alert level 4 because infections are still on a rising trend, the Public Health Ministry’s permanent secretary Dr Kiattiphum Wongrajit said on Friday. Earlier this week, Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul indicated the possibility of lowering the alert level by one point as the situation is “partly under control” with less than 20 deaths per day. https://www.nationthailand.com/in-focus/40011378

(1) Your comparison is flawed because Thailand was mainly affected during one year only. (2) The number of excess deaths is much higher than the official number of Covid deaths. After South Africa, Denmark was the next country to get fully hit with Omicron and the peak has not been reached yet, its still up all the way, because of the sheer numbers involved that also includes deaths, they are now at a higher level than their very first wave. The new linage according to evidence is not any more virulent but is harder to detect and is more transmissible than the original Omicron. Some scientists have dubbed the sub-lineage “stealth omicron” as its genetic makeup could make it harder to spot using PCR tests. While cases are low in the U.K., BA.2 accounts for nearly half (45%) of Danish Covid-19 cases, according to Denmark’s Statens Serum Institut (SSI), part of its ministry of health, a jump from just 20% in the last week of 2021. Don't look, don't find. Most reported cases are walk-ins. Expect the authorities won't take action until walk-ins start increasing exponentially. Oops, used the word that must not be spoken, my bad. Fatalities will be highest at the beginning of a pandemic, so I'm not sure why you think 'one year only' would be under-representative. Just the opposite. Not true, since January 2020 when covid was first detected in Thailand till April 1st 2021, over a year there were only 94 deaths. Since 1st April 2021 till present there has been 21,925, just over 9 months. 15 minutes ago, Mr Derek said: 2. No. Anything 'official' on Covid has consistently proven to be false, inaccurate, or downright bogus. Reasoning has been strongly skewed by hysteria - for example, by factoring in all deaths 'with Covid' rather than 'by Covid' and even including 'would have died anyway from old age', therefore if anything the actual Covid death rate will most likely be lower than the official figures. We might fairly assume then that Covid is somewhat less than half as deadly as ordinary flu. The pandemic’s true death toll: millions more than official counts https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-022-00104-8

Why aren't we being told this? Because the authorities are confused and terrified and want to keep the masses vigilant just in case a worse variant appears. But as I have argued elsewhere, a new variant that is both more lethal and more infectious is both logically and biologically impossible. Because omicron is safer than ordinary flu we can now get back to the old normal. Trying to suppress it is not only futile but counterproductive because omicron is the best thing that could have happened. This is about Thailand 1) As mentioned by Bkk Bryan, unlike most western countries,Thailand has not been much affected by Covid in 2020. The reason is unknown, one hypothesis is that it benefited from some form of immunity to the first variant. The pandemic really started in April 2021. 2) Anedoctical evidence is no evidence. There is a very simple way to check the accuracy of Covid deaths count: to compare with the number of excess deaths all causes. In the absence of another significant extra death cause -such a tsunami, a war, etc...- if the number of covid deaths is close to the number of excess deaths all causes, it is accurate (with a margin of error). If It's significantly above the number of excess deaths it means it has been over-counted. If it's significantly below the number of excess deaths, it means It's been under-counted. In most developed countries, the number of Covid deaths is close to the number of excess deaths, so It's more or less accurate. In Thailand, from the month of April 2021 to the end of year, the number of excess deaths compared to the same period of time in 2020 is 65,291, which is around three times the number of official Covid deaths. It's just another flu.... Come on, it's been debunked long time ago. Edited January 23, 2022 by candide
