Is Somebody On Kpg Able To Do Me A Small Favor Please?

Featured Replies

I'm looking to buy a new Honda CBR150, I'm not currently on the island and not due back for a week or so, I need to check and find out if the motorcycle dealer on the left on the main road out of Thongsala towards Ban Tai stocks it. If it doesn't then I'll buy one while I'm in Bangkok and have it shipped down.

Does anyone know the phone number or email address for the shop? Or failing that would some kind soul like to pop in and ask when they are driving past sometime?

Thanks in advance.

i woul advise you not to buy one. the right tool for the right job. cbr's are good for good road's where you can realy openthem up but phangyan and samui. a scooter woud over ake you. if u have the money you are better off with those small kawaski 110 forget the name. you know what i mean when u se one. they are perfect for the island can go over anything even race them.

can buy up grades easily aswell.

i also like cbr's but i had one before it was like being surround by beautiful women. being able to go with them but not able because you are with your bird.

in other words a bi tease. that is just my advise.

up to you though

mac.wheeler seems to know what he wants ... and these small Kawas are crap by the way ... not even a manual clutch

But don't buy the bike here ... you are better off buying in Surat Thani / BKK.

Or think about buying second hand in BKK or Phuket, for the price of a new 150cc you could get a 400cc or 600cc in good condition.

Phangan's Streets improved a lot in recent years, most of the island is easy accessible, even with a street bike.

The dealer on the Ban Tai road is Yamaha, not Honda. The Honda dealer is on the road to Chaloklam, just past the Wat on the left hand side.

Hubby believes that if they don't have the 150 in stock they can easily get it for you in Samui and have it sent over in one day. I doubt there'd be that much of a savings by travelling to Surat and bringing it over on the boat. But, up to you.

Thanks folks,

I must admit I wasn't sure if it was a Honda dealer or not, I had completely forgotten about the one up north, do you think they will charge an extortionate price just because they are not a mainland dealer? I would much prefer to buy locally as I have far too much to do when I fly into bkk tomorrow as it is.

I'm not really into the idea of buying second hand, the bike is a steal at 65k list price new as it is, at least I will know it hasn't been thrashed silly by a Sang Som monster for the last 3 years :o And buying a second hand bigger bike would possibly be the end of me, as I am very occasionaly known to turn into a Sang Som monster myself!

BigC, scooters scare the heck out of me, give me a bike with a decent amount of rubber touching the ground, brakes that work (and keep working until you reach the bottom of the hill) and a manual gearbox so I can at least choose the revs I would like at any given moment. And as Phanganisland points out, the road situation is improving all the time, of course I'm not gonna drive the thing to Tong Nai Pan but I wouldn't wanna drive a scooter there either!

Later guys, thanks once again.

mac, hubby thinks it will probably be about 1500 baht more than the mainland (and he believes that would include transportation from Samui if necessary).

Thanks sbk, that's another thing ticked off my 'confusing things to do in Bangkok by waving my arms around at people who don't understand me' list then.

If it's only a couple of thousand Baht more to purchase it locally then going elsewhere to buy it would be a false economy, it would probably cost more, especially if you factor in the fact it would take a day of my time or more to do it. Plus you then have a nice relationship with the dealer who is going to take care of it for you for the next few years.

Where's the best place to pick up a second-hand honda dream or something similar on kpg? Or is it worth going over to SuratThani and picking one up there? I can't imagine it would be. Any ideas on what I should be paying because I really don't want to be ripped off. I might send my girlfriend to buy it, possibly get it cheaper.

I usually see them up for sale now and again on the notice board outside Limpipong opposite Big A, not often but it's a good place to check.

Mac, cinders is selling one on koh samui, listed in the classifieds. Not sure if you are interested since its second hand, but I found the timing interesting :o

Oh the confusion! It was all so clear and simple until I read this post! It's even the 2007 model by the looks of it, ok I wanted a black one but 15k baht can make me go color blind.

Thanks sbk!

you don't know what u r talking about. u can easily have a clutch fitted and how much would it cost you to go all the way to phuket to hbring one back. there are loads of bike dealers on samui.

kawaski, trail bike is not crap.

Yes, well anyway, mac wants a honda 150, not a kawasaki. And he doesn't want to spend his time going to Phuket to get one, as he has already stated. So, now he has more information, he can hopefully get what he wants.

Good luck and hope you can get a good deal, mac. :o

I guess you mean those silly little KSR things? As you quite rightly point out in your previous post, the right tool for the right job. I'm 5 foot 10 and 80 kilos, it would be like putting an elephant on a skateboard.

They always make me chuckle when I see the people that rent them driving around with their knees tucked up under their chest thinking they look rather cool on what is in effect a toy bike.

Just wanted to let you know your advice was spot on sbk, I popped into the Honda dealer on Monday and told them I want a new CBR150, they said no problem, we have on Samui.

They rang yesterday morning at 9:15am to tell me it was ready to pick up, pretty good service in my mind.

I paid about 4k more than I could have got the bike on the mainland, so not too bad considering it saved me a round trip to Surat Thani, probably including an overnight stay.

They even managed to find me a black one :o
