snoop1130
Teams from the departments of Pollution Control, Marine and Marine and Coastal Resources have been sent to the Gulf of Thailand, off the coast of the eastern province of Rayong, to contain a massive amount of oil which spilled from an oil pipeline last night (Tuesday). Director-general of the Marine and Coastal Resources Department Sophon Thongdee said today that about 400,000 litres of crude oil leaked into the sea from the pipeline belonging to Star Petroleum Refining PCL, and the oil slicks, from estimations of wind direction and currents, are expected to reach Mae Ramphueng beach and Khao Laem Ya-Mu Koh Samet National Park on Friday. The company revealed in a statement released this morning that it had succeeded in plugging leak from the pipeline just after midnight. Popular Post Gold Star
No worries. The environmental damage of this oil spill will be offset by the recent ban on sunscreen lotion. That melanoma you have growing is really just a badge of honour showing your personal sacrifice on behalf of the environment. 1
seajae
what can they expect when they do no sevicing an any equipment or even make regular inspection to ensure this sort of thing doesnt happen,.Why arent they using containment equipment so it cant spread, probably too worried about losing profits so doing the cheapest thing they can get away with, should be hit with huge fines as well as all costs for loss of business to all effected

Peanuts. Indonesian fishermen are now suing them for billions worth of damages in a civil trial in Canberra. While we are on the subject the Thais are moving further in on Burmese oil fields as other companies exit due to human rights concerns. Easy, when you don't have those qualms and money is the only objective.

Forced to take a ripoff ATK test and risk being quarantined for a week at your own expense for the privilige of sitting on a beach covered in crude oil. They certainly know how to tempt us. 3
SunsetT
You cant mix tourism with heavy industry. I think tourism on the Eastern seaboard will have to eventually submit to this reality.
Thingamabob
If this does reach Samet in force the consequeces could be a disaster for all aspects of life on the island. Hopefully the slick will divert due to tidal movement. Not much can be done by the authorities to control the direction of the spill.

PETERTHEEATER
Genuine question. From where, exactly, is this crude oil being pumped through an undersea pipeline and to where? What is the origin of the crude oil?
Partenavia
Makes a huge difference as to what crude type it is. Heavy crude will be a big problem. Light crude most will evaporate and the remainder easily contained. As usual very little information.
