up-country_sinclair
Hi, My wife went into an auto shop for a regular tune up for her 8-year old Honda Jazz, and they said she needed new shock absorbers (fair enough, the car is old), but they quoted 4,000 for the back, and 5,500 for the front, and that does not include labor. Is this a reasonable price? I'm somewhat suspicious that they're trying to put the most expensive brand they have on her old car, or their just flat out trying to rip her off. Any feedback appreciated. Thanks.
seedy
The front uses MacPherson struts. The actual shock absorber is inside the coil spring, which means that the whole unit needs to be removed, spring compressed, r and r shock, and be reassembled. then reinstalled in the vehicle, and a wheel alignment performed. If the quoted price includes upper shock mount (a large rubber ring like device) and a wheel alignment then it is not out of line. Rear shocks seem a bit expensive, as only 2 bolts - upper and lower - to remove and replace. But brand of replacement shock will be a factor. Prices WITHOUT labor are excessive - is it a Honda dealer ? Edited February 16, 2022 by seedy

Yellowtail
If the shocks are worn out, the ride should be bouncy, it it? If the car rides and drives good the shocks are fine. How many Km on the vehicle? Is the price for OEM or aftermarket parts?
MrJ2U
Get quotes from 3 places if you've got the time. Bring your Thai wife along to get the details and bridge the language gap. Check out Maxx and Cockpit's website and Facebooks pages for promotions and discounts. All in price seems reasonable with labor. up-country_sinclair
Wife brought the car into the local Cockpit today, and they said there was no need to replace the front shocks, and they put Monroe's on the back for 3600, labor included. They agreed with the first guy that the rear shocks were leaking. 15 hours ago, Yellowtail said: How many Km on the vehicle? Only 48,000. Thanks for the replies and suggestions.

I've never been anywhere else other than Cockpit only had the first free service at dealers with all our family vehicles.
