Thai media Siam Rath used the polite Thai word for a water monitor after one half crashed through a lady's ceiling.

They referred to the protected beast as a "tua ngern tua thong" ' the silver and gold beast'.

Bang Khen police along with rescue services soon had the two meter long animal in custody and returned to nature.

Sirirat, the house owner, said she heard a crash and felt plaster crashing down and got quite a start when she looked up.

Thais often use the vernacular word for a water monitor when swearing though there is a belief among older Thais that using the polite word will bring riches.

I hear that's correct, suggests ASEAN NOW's cultural affairs correspondent.

I just want to know how a reptile that big gains access to the roof space ?

They can climb vertical walls, as I have seen myself, so no issue there. We have one that very occasionally visits our totally walled garden, getting over a 7 foot wall.  The dogs go mental when they see it and it, very slowly, it climbs over again.

We've got one behind out place, except he burrows under the wall.
