Ousted Pm To Come Home

Mid

Recommended Posts

Reuters reporting that Thaksin's propaganda team have released a song to help drum up popular support for his return. Apparently it's top of the pops in Chiang Mai and the dance clubs of Manchester too. :o

Thaksin's coming home

He still believes, he still believes

He still believes

He's coming home,

He's coming home, he's coming

Thaksin's coming home

Tears for heroes dressed in grey

No plans for election day

Stay in bed, drift away

It could have been all

Coups in the street

It was nearly complete

It was nearly so sweet

And now we're singing

Three elephants on his shirt

TRT still gleaming

No more years of hurt

No more need for dreaming

Talk about Thaksin coming home

And then one night in Manchester

He was strong, he had grown

And now I see Potjaman ready for war

Prommin good as before

Sudarat ready to score

And Newin screaming

Three elephants on his shirt

TRT still gleaming

No more years of hurt

No more need for dreaming

He can dance Somsak's dance

He could dance it in France

He's coming home, he's coming home,

Thaksin's coming home....

He is wealthy but not that important - he is retired. What is he going to do with all his money, even if unfrozen? Invest in some beer company? He has lost/sold his business empire, he can't start over again, too old, and too big for anyone to "make room".

Open up a 7/11 store?

After reading today that another 8 Billion went missing last week, to me that is a signal he is on the run now and this thread is a diversion of sorts. The government should probably be sending some very trustworthy people to the border crossings, that cash is on the move out of Thailand. Also the on and off rumors of Thaksin spending money also seems like capital investment that may be more difficult for the Thai government to get.

I find it intriguing that when his wife and children were being made to appear in court on various charges, Thaksin didn't return home.

When the political party he founded, TRT, was dissolved by the Court's decision, Thaksin didn't return home.

When he and so many of his buddies were banned from political activity for 5 years, Thaksin didn't return home.

But when someone tried to take a 20 baht note out of his wallet, he's on the next flight home...

agreeably an exaggeration of descriptions... but the crux of his thinking is there... and shows where his priorities lie...

quite frankly, I can't see how his family would feel anything but disgust by his actions.

Thaksin's safety 'cannot be assured'

Ousted prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra can return to Thailand to defend his frozen assets but his safety cannot be guaranteed, coup leader Sonthi Boonyaratkalin warned yesterday. The chairman of the CNS yesterday responded to a recent remark by Noppadon Pattama, a legal adviser to Mr Thaksin, that his boss might have to return to Thailand to defend the assets that the ASC has ordered frozen on several charges. ''When he was here, many people were frustrated. If he comes at this time of crisis, please do not forget that most people still remember the old feelings. So if Mr Thaksin returns now, it may not be safe,'' Gen Sonthi said. If he comes back, Gen Sonthi said, the CNS would have a heavy burden ensuring his safety. If any third party did something to Mr Thaksin, the CNS could be blamed, he said. However, he said he did not think Mr Thaksin would actually want to return for the time being. Chart Thai leader Banharn Silpa-archa warned Mr Thaksin to think carefully about his own safety. Secretary-general of the Campaign for Popular Democracy Suriyasai Katasila warned that anti-Thaksin protesters would not sit idly by if his return stirred up trouble for the country

Coming back, any day now...

After keeping a low profile, deposed prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra has caused a fresh sensation by going back on his word - again. This time he says he will return home as soon as possible. The absence of a security guarantee from the powers-that-be may have given the ousted prime minister more pause for thought, says a political observer. He would feel safer about coming home if someone were appointed to take charge of him. Hence the word is spreading that he may only be threatening to come home but has no real intention of doing so. Mr Thaksin cannot "risk his neck" by coming home because he might become a target for assassination from whatever opponent group, the observer pointed out. Thus, a safety-conscious person like Mr Thaksin knows in his heart whether he should stake his life on his homecoming. But talk about his plans does ignite some glimmer of hope in his desperate former party members, the observer added. However, the chances for violence are strong even if he is pushed into a corner. This is because loyal supporters who profited from his years in power will not give up; they certainly seem ready to fight to the finish.

If anyone seriously wanted to assassinate him, wouldn't it have happened already.

I would expect that the anti brigade would rather see him financially crushed and publicly humiliated. (and then maybe assassinated)

Here I risk doing what is known as a 'young husband' amongst the inner circles of TV, namely making a confident prediction that turns out to be wrong, but I wouldn't be surprised if Thaksin doesn't come back at all.

Regarding national reconciliation, I propose that General Sonthi Boonyaratkalin offers to take Khun Potchaman as his third wife, as a Muslim this is quite acceptable for him; and as for her, after the freezing of her assets she may be grateful for any financial assistance.

The nation could thus move on happily reunited.

You deserve some credit for being the first to call it if this report is right.

FM criticises report Thaksin may ask UN protection

Thu, June 14, 2007 : Last updated 13:04 pm (Thai local time)

Foreign Minister Nitya Pibulsonggram lashed out on Thursday a report that ousted prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra may seek protection from United Nations if he decided to return home.

Nitya was responding to a news report that quoted Thaksin's spokesman, Noppadon Pattama, as saying Thaksin may end his exile and return home to fight embezzlement charges.

Noppadon reportedly said that Thaksin may ask UN High Commission for Refugees to provide protection for him as the military junta refused to guarantee his safety.

"I could not understand on what ground that Khun Thaksin will ask the UN. They should read the UN convention carefully and thoroughly. The UN will intervene into a country's internal affairs only if that government invites it to do so," the minister said.

The UN will step in just there is serious violence or conflict in a country.

Meanwhile Noppadon told reporters that he will recommend Thaksin who is now in London not to return home in this period for fearing of his safety.

He said the military junta's chief Sonthi Boonyaratkalin did not guarantee Thaksin's safety if he decided to return to Thailand.

Sonthi said on Wednesday that if Thaksin is back in the country, many people were frustrated. "If he comes at this time of crisis, please do not forget that most people still remember the old feelings. So if Mr Thaksin returns now, it may not be safe."

To raise a point of law... since siriporn is right, it certainly can't really be considered a 'younghusband' now, can it?....

Pokemon's assets are very large, indeed... XXXL panties, for sure.

and since Thaksin has Mai for a mia noi over there in England... perhaps Sonthi could be Pokemon's sammi noi...

ohhhh......the imagined thought of her in a see-through negligee at a short-time hotel with mirrors over the bed stirs the blood...

Thaksin not to return early for safety concern

Noppadon Pattama, legal adviser of former premier Thaksin Shinawatra, said Thursday the deposed prime minister will not return to Thailand to defend frozen assets this month for safety concern. "Everyone fears death. I fear death," he said in a radio interview this morning. "Since the government and coup leaders said his safety could not be guaranteed, there is little chance he will return any time soon." Mr Noppadon said he will inform Mr Thaksin about political situation here and will advise him not to return early. Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont gave a green light for him to return to the country for the first time on Tuesday. Mr Noppadon said early this week that the deposed premier will return early to defend his assets frozen on Monday by the Assets Scrutiny Committee.

Thoroughly bizarre. Thaksin playing a martyr appealing to the UN?

"Ohhh.... UN.... help me..... pleeeeaaaassssse... "...

give me a break... :o

"and oh yeah... by the way, I still say you're not my father.... "

and yes, the rumors are flying...

security for both Sonthi and Saprang has been upped:

Security has also been boosted for Gen Sonthi and CNS deputy secretary-general Saprang Kalayanamitr as their intelligence staff have warned of possible threats against them amid the current political tensions.

Can't the 14 millions that adored and voted for him 'protect' him somehow? :o

that would be Bt500 each with free transportation to bangkok and food.

UNHCR affirmed it has no authority to interfere in Thailand's issues

Minister of Foreign Affairs Nitya Pibulsonggram (นิตย์ พิบูลสงคราม) has affirmed the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has no authority to interfere in Thailand’s political matters.

Mr. Nitya says should ex-PM Thaksin Shinnawatra return to Thailand, UNHCR is in no position to take any action against Dr Thaksin. In response to news to hire a lobbyist company, he says the ministry is considering; however, the ministry is also trying to explain the country’s issues to other countries.

At the same time, he has urged agencies to seek solution for drafting constitution for fear of the disapproval of the constitution.

Thaksin won't return without safety guarantee

BANGKOK - Ousted prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, now in self-imposed exile in London, will not return to Thailand unless the interim government of Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont will guarantee his safety, his legal advisor Noppadol Pattama said Thursday.

Mr. Noppadol said the former premier, who has been travelling in Asia and England since his government was toppled by a coup led by army chief Gen. Sonthi Boonyaratkalin last September, would not return to answer to graft charges against him unless the interim government guarantees his safety.

The attorney said earlier this week that the deposed premier would come to Bangkok soon after the Assets Examination Committee froze assets belonging to Mr. Thaksin and his wife.

Return = arrest (despite what the gov't says) = he will not return any time soon. But he has achieved his purpose - stir up the hostilities against the Junta from afar. Gamesmanship & plenty more to come.

I can see it now... The UN sends peacekeeping troops to Bangkok. The world fears another Rwanda, as the Bangkok Hi-So's in their armour-plated Mercedes are in a stand-off against the invading hoardes from Issan led by legions of taxis and tuk tuks.

Tensions are high at hotel Bangkok where the former PM, flanked by UN Generals negotiates his safety guarantee... to be continued.

Prawase warns of violent clash if Thaksin returns

June 14, 2007 : Last updated 06:35 pm (Thai local time)

The country will face political chaos if the government allows deposed prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra to return because he could be assassinated, Senior Citizen Prawase Wasi Thursday warned.

"If Thaksin returns, there will be a violent clash. Soldiers will not let Thaksin live if they believe Thaksin is the cause of the chaos and his presence is a threat to the country's institutions. They will kill him. If soldiers want to kill anyone they can because they are competent at using arms," Prawase said.

Prawase said if Thaksin dies, the country will be in for endless trouble and protests because Thaksin has both people who love and hate him.

"The best prevention is not to let him in. If his return could lead to chaos, even though he has the right to return, the government should not allow it," he said.

There is general un-rest on the streets, in addition to sporadic looting. The authorities have imposed martial law with a dawn to dusk curfew allowing all the vampires to prey on un-suspecting passers by.

The "big man" in charge, commenting from his underground bunker, has called for the most revered black magic man to cast the bones. Depending on the outcome of this ritual, he may leave the country in the hands of his most trusted side kick "little man" and take up Opium smoking in Mae Hongsong.

Meanwhile there has been speculation as to whether a rumble is happening inside the jungle of downtown Bangkok. The chinese moneylenders have all turned their business's into illegal bookmakers for the up-coming fight. It seems we are going to be witnessing a grand event in the first bout with Herr Taksin versus Sondthi L. It is widely touted as a personal grudge match. At this point in time Herr Taksin is being given three to two against.

... to be continued.
