Last week the Philippines posted a 176-percent increase in voluntary resignation across all industries.

And a study conducted by a local software as a service (SaaS) firm, Sprout Solutions, reported that many Filipinos who quit their jobs amid the pandemic, now also prefer hybrid work.

We can expect that this is likely to become the norm across many countries as people who initially were forced to work from home due to the pandemic, now started realising it is actually beneficial.

Are we changing how we work?

A significant percentage of the world’s workforce naturally will still need to actually go to work, especially those working in factories or doing manual labour.

However, that leaves many who are office workers, who now can be just as productive staying home.

With Zoom, the internet, and mobiles it is quite easy to stay in touch and still contribute remotely.

The benefits are numerous

Firstly, you eliminate the need to commute saving a substantial number of unnecessary emissions and costs.

You can also still attend meetings online. Whereas before you would waste time travelling to meetings, you can now fit in double the number of meetings a day all from your computer.

Your colleagues and the boss can still react with you and occasionally you can meet in person if required.

For expats who in the past needed to relocate, they can now still provide foreign-based businesses with the same support but remotely.

The bosses will also see a financial benefit, as relocating staff is very costly.

As a journalist, I have been working from home for the past decade and am used to avoiding the rush hour into the office.

Given the choice do you think you would be as productive in your current job if you were able to work from home?
