Thai post expensive…….

A couple of weeks ago I received from the UK some documents to sign, cost according to stamp on envelope was a little over £10, approx 450 Thai baht and took just 6 days from day of posting to my house here. I signed the documents and returned them but it cost 1050 baht for exactly the same documents, almost 2.5 times the price. Today I received another document to sign, this time the cost from the uk was £7.50 or approximately 330 baht and again received in 6 days. I returned the signed documents a short while ago and once again it was 1050 from here so over 3 times the cost of receiving. I have no complaints as being legal documents speedy and safe receipt and delivery is most important but why such a difference in the costs. And yes I also think that 6 days on each occasion is excellent.

All postal services Globally are under pressure, as people are going Digital, and the need for paper diminishes.

yes, stamp for postcard abroad went from 15 thb to 36 thb.
when less tourists just more than double the price would seem to be the thai rationale.

It seemed to me that international post went up considerably when the covid started but domestic post went down to promote people staying home.  From memory domestic parcel post is still only 22 baht for up to a half kilo.

I do a lot of int'l book shipping, out & in--heavy! Post is expensive both ways.

Yes, prices going up. I regularly send a single page letter to the UK, registered post, which pre-covid was around ฿85. It then increased to ฿175 and last week was ฿250.

Good perspective... always nice to hear your 4 cents worth,,,

1500;Baht because you probaby sent by EMS ????

But yes their prices to send anything abroad by most services have rocketed since Covid started

i had to send a receipt-registered letter (EMS Service) back to USA IRS. It was about 3x more expensive than a year ago (B 325). It took close to 3 weeks to get out of Thailand this time compated to 10 days last year.

THAI POST worker said "Covid caused changes"

COVID means more precautions must be taken in all postal offices, that pushes costs up. Fewer flights between countries does the same, less competition for air freight.

I sent a letter by post to England ... the first time in 20+ years. I was surprized that it cost 52 Baht. Unfortunately, I had to use the mail for it.

agreed i post letter to uk on a regular basis cost was 24/26  bht, now it is 48 bht on the last 3 occasions

Within Thailand we only use Thai Post as a last resort. Flash are way cheaper. We recently paid ฿40 with Thai Post. A similar box and weight costs  ฿27 with our local Flash. Sure it doesn't sound much but when you send about 10 boxes per week it adds up.

Just shipped dealer red plates back to dealership. EMS 52 baht. Pretty cheap imo.

Everything is.

if the price of post is your biggest concern then you're very lucky.

It is what is, what a pointless comment, I am merely commenting on why sending identical documents back to the UK,  the price is around 3 times the cost of them being sent here.

Wait for it! BBC has just announced that UK postal Rates are going up . A first class letter (internal mail) will now cost 95 pence.

Russian airspace closed planes having to go around etc is also bound to be an excuse to hike prices too.

Whereas sending a letter from the UK to Thailand will set you back by at least £1.60 or 70 THB:-

So why are neither of you demonising Royal Mail in the same way as you are Thailand Post?
