Why not buy new?

prices have come down a lot, and the second hand ones seemed to be priced quite high...

At least you have a new battery then, my NEC is about a year and a half old and the battery lasts maybe only 1 hour now...

There's several models selling around the 20,000 Baht mark, and they'll do anything basic...

A 2 year old worn out laptop still cost 15,000 Baht!!!

John, read the small print!

It's a lucky draw, where the winners can get the laptop at 10,000 cheaper (=19,900) or the desktop at 5000 Cheaper (=9900)...

Still the normal price is OK, recently got a similar Acer for the same price but with the slower AMD Turion X2...

See the ACER advert in the Bangkok Post today.......

Don't buy acer. Sub-standard parts, breaks down prematurely, don't match the spec on the stickers (slower memory, slower HDDs etc), and almost impossible to get them to honor the warranty.

If you buy an acer from an "real" acer dealer, you get what you paying for and what is on description lable! Buying from an 3. party or used or black import or so, you should know that you on the looser-street!

Experiences from one of my customers: Buying 15 Toshiba Laptops and returning within 7 days 9 of them because of a lot problems, incompatibility, wrong spec &c! and this by an Toshiba direct Dealer!!

I use an acer without any problems except 1 change of an DVD Drive and exchange of the 2 DDR2 512 MB 667 memories to one DDR2 1 GB 667! Acer also changeed the HDD from Seagate to an Hitachi one free of charge because I want to have an Hitachi instead of an Seagate!

May you've bad ex;periences but that's for ypou and NOT for anybody!

I'll second that.

I have an Acer Aspire 5562WXMi for over a year now. I use it extensively on a daily basis, including international travel, not a single malfunction, and it has inside it exactly what's written on the label.

Same here, I'm on my third Acer and haven't had any problems with any of them - and their pricing here can't be beat!

Sorry for hijacking this thread but - I have an Acer too.

Acer produced a lot of lemons around last year. I had one which broke down constantly. However, the computer was as advertised. And the service was so excellent that I bought _another_ Acer despite the fact that the lemon had everything break on it that could possibly break.

The new Acer is a business version - TM8200 line - and has no problems.

Acer were producing parts for most major computer brands for years before thet decided to put it in a box with their own name on it....so some iof you knocking Acer may well be using their stuff anyway.

I thought his reply to you was genuine...why the hostility?

Not hostile...just don't see thpoint of his reply.

If I posted "I would like to by a cat"

would you say

"what about a dog"

he then states he has one...why not then?

Anyway his HDD is too small.

Well, I'd also not recommend getting a used laptop, especially not a "reasonably new" one. It would be nearly the same price as a new one, so there would really be no point in getting it used, unless of course you have a fetish for something that's been used.

Acer... Acer is the top selling notebook in Thailand, by far. It's really no surprise... they come out with more newer notebooks with better specs at cheaper prices, really all the big selling points for this country. At the Commart event yesterday, there were waaaay more people at the Acer booth than at any other. BUT... if you buy the cheapest one (and I did, as a throwaway) you are asking for trouble. Acer DOES honor their warranty, but they do have their limits (read the fine print, just as any other manufacturer). Now, the cheapest one I bought had a BIG problem after the warranty expired, and Acer was not being nice about it (technically, they didn't have to be nice, it was out of warranty, but it was also obviously a manufacturer's defect). In the end, they came through (and more), but not after I had to hassle them right to their worldwide headquarters. Another Acer that I bought, a mid-range model, has been very good and trouble-free, surviving the worst of treatment (dropped it several times). So, YMMV, but the cheaper you buy (from any manufacturer), the more risk you take. An extended warranty might be a good choice... Acer's is an extra 2,990 for 3 years.

As for being hostile, you really shouldn't reply that curtly to someone who's trying to be helpful. He has good intentions, so at least be courteous. Even your last reply wasn't very nice, to put it lightly.

Don't worry guys, I got pretty thick skin :o:D

I have an Acer as well, main reason for buying it was the good reputation of their warranty/service centers.

If you read a lot of forums, pretty much any brand has lemons, even the more expensive ones. So it simply made sense to me to go with the brand offering the best service.

And I haven't needed it yet either!

I'm using an Acer Aspire 5052 that I purchased at the beginning of this year from the Acer dealer in Pan Thip. It see's lots of useage and travel's around alot so it is taking some knock's when i'm on the bike etc. and so far no problem's whatsoever.

Including tax (which isn't in the displayed prices) but not Xp licence the cost was 28k, fairly decent spec.

I had been told previously to avoid Acer, that they will have lot's of problem's but with this spec. the closest Price to Spec. I could find was a Fujitsu at 37'500 and then the Toshiba at almost 50k.

So I bought the Acer and i'm glad I did.
