Interior minister steps in in "one rule for the people one rule for them" Covid dispute

Thailand's interior minister has stepped up inquiries into a party after a golf event in Chiang Mai broke Covid-19 alcohol rules.

 

As the police inquiry faltered Gen Anupong Paojinda decided it was important to get to the bottom of the party on January 22nd.

 

Beers and spirits were on the tables and playing in the event as well as celebrating at the party was provincial governor Prajon Pratsakul.

Siam Rath reported that moves were afoot to sideline the governor ahead of his retirement later in the year. 

 

The case is viewed as a party attended by well off people flouting the rules - while the ordinary people followed them.

Why doesn't Thailand have public golf courses, like say Australia, where anybody is welcome for a very reasonable green fee? Or do they? The rich can then be left alone to their private clubs.

Plenty of cheap golf courses in Thailand suitable for the massed minions.

The vast majority of courses in Thailand accept green fees. There are only a very few such as Alpine in Bangkok which are exclusive for members only.

Are the rules in Chiang Mai different from Bangkok ?

People in Bangkok can sit in a restaurant and have wine, beer etc - how is this any different ?

 

Bang Phli has a booze Ban still, next door Bangkok does not. 

So, If I have lunch in Emporium I can have a beer. If I have lunch in Mega Bang Na I can’t.

 

These provincial differences are utterly ridiculous.

 

In this example, I’m not sure what the regulations are in Chiang Mai, but they are certainly being used to fein false outrage.... Who really cares if some golfers hare having some booze with a meal after an organised event ?? 

 

This whole thing with manufactured outrage is utterly childish.

I have no mind about this one way or another but the article was commenting on the fact that the 'masses' followed the rules and the rich do not.

The event was back in January.

I thought that Chiang Mai (and most other places) had an alcohol ban back then.

Difficult to remember exact dates because then moved to state 'SHA plus' restaurants could sell alcohol, then it was bars could obtain restaurant licences etc etc.

I do agree with your Puritanical ‘anti-alcohol’ comment though. ???? cheers.

I think eating food from shared dishes is more of a problem than alcohol.
