Yes, those 496 million cases must have caught it staying home!

It all depends on what kind of outdoor setting and contact is occurring. Sharing utensils and/or drinking glasses (Thai style?) and face-to-face contact can still get you infected.

"From a virus standpoint, there's no indication that omicron is behaving differently [in outdoor settings]," says Dr. Preeti Malani, an infectious disease professor at the University of Michigan who co-authored an editorial on the research on football teams.

"That doesn't mean [transmission is] impossible if you're packed together in a place that's only sort of open air and if people are sharing food or kissing or drinking. But if it's a casual interaction outside, even if it's relatively crowded, I'm comfortable not having a mask on."

'Can'...So what? Large crowds  gather outside to hurl  water not share food! Sharing food may be an issue INSIDE OR OUTSIDE DUH!  The focus  is on large  Songkran gathering not eating..LOL

Have you every been in Thailand during Songkran? Large WATER FIGHTS AMONGST CROWDS OF PEOPLE IS a feature  Not mass banqueting!

Thai families and friends don't gather together, even outdoors, for communal meals during  Song Kran?  Where have you been living?

Six people sitting on a mat outside on the ground sharing som tam and beers with shared utensils and glasses certainly puts them at risk.

You may be focused on the water throwing aspect of Songkran. But I can assure you, the public health authorities are probably more focused on the socializing-related risks....

They do as you describe whether it's Songkran or not! Or haven't you noticed? Communal eating eating is a daily part of Thail culture and thus irrelevant to Songkran  celebrations which focus on huge crowds interacting outside, involved in mass water brawls. That's what makes a  Songkran day different from others - not communal eating.

I think it's a reasonable certainty that there's more general socializing, and more socializing with people from outside people's normal non-holiday social circle, during the Songkran holidays. Thus the heightened concern about the increased spread of the virus and mounting cases.

the authorities were probably referencing large crowds  gathering to celebrate Songkran and taking part in crowd events not eating. I was definitely  referring to large Songkran crowd events where water is thrown around. Check out you tube to understand what happens at Songkran and you will see sitting cross legged sharing food does not really  future.

So wait for the required period... you have no rights to jump the line. The vaccinations need to go to higher priority cases, those not fully vaccinated or those who received less effective ones.

They also go to the older people, the obese and those with underlying conditions.

1,862 COVID-19 patients have been suffering from lung inflammation as of Tuesday, 781 of whom are on ventilators.

42% of all lung inflammation on ventilators?

What the hell are they doing?

I can’t believe it ! When will they ever update their treatment to new scientific studies and papers?

It is well known since more than 1.5 years,

that ventilators mostly decrease the chance of survival,

instead of improving it.

There are a lot of other treatment plans, giving you a better chance of survival and reducing Long Covid…
