Cross-Border Haze Shrouds the Northeast

BANGKOK, April 12 (TNA) – Smoke haze from Laos raised the levels of PM2.5 sharply in the Northeast while the fine dust exceeded its safe threshold in 34 provinces this morning, according to the Pollution Control Department.

 

Attapon Charoenchansa, director-general of the department, said inbound smoke haze from the neighboring country was affecting the Northeast.

Air quality will be good in greater Bangkok and moderate in the North during the Songkran festival but particulate matter 2.5 micrometers and less in diameter (PM2.5) may thicken on April 18 and 19 when air is expected to be stagnant.

Yes of course; it's always from 'Neighbouring Countries' as Thai's don't burn anything do they ?   That's why when i ride my Bike every morning a could easily lose count of the smouldering Bonfires, Rubbish Heaps and Paddy's seen every day of the week !

Thailand seems to do most of its burning earlier in the season.  Fires now are mostly from Laos.

They don't mention the coal burning power plants are owned or the power is bought by Thailand.

Can't see the 'mountains' less than a kilometer away.......6x the WHO healthy limit here.

 

But glad to see the situation is being closely monitored.

Once again Thailand refuses to accept responsibility for their share of the burn offs. Sure other countries are burning off fields as well, but that doesn't mitigate Thailand's personal burn off response. Add the millions of diesel engines belching smoke and fumes and its mighty unpleasant here at times.

Chiang Mai only has 'green' air when it is raining - which fortunately has been unseasonably happening this year. As soon as rain stops, and things dry out, the new fires start up again.
