VISA APPLICATION - Single Entry Spousal Visa from UK Embassy London
Sorry if this has been asked before. I emailed them 3 days ago and am yet to receive a response. I am new to the process of applying for a visa in my own country, usually I do it in one of the neighboring countries of Thailand. Truth is I'm only in the UK visiting for a couple of months. I am actually a resident in Thailand and I plan to extend this by 12 months when I'm there. Just some questions about some of the docs they need, as I am not a resident of UK. Document indicating current location I understand that utility bills (such as electricity, gas, or mobile phone) showing my name and address are required. So will a copy of the front and back of my UK driver's licence card with my address on suffice? This is actually an old address - I am not currently at the address stated on my UK driver's licence. Will this be an issue? Financial evidence showing monthly income So I recieve all my money in Euros through Wise, working for a European company, so I can't really show this, even though it has a UK address on the statement, it wouldn't match the one on my driver's licence. Would they instead accept the bank balance of my Thai savings account in Thai baht? I have had 400k THB sitting there for a couple of months already ready to show. How long must it be sitting there for it to be accepted? And if I show this, do I still have to show UK bank statements showing monthly salaries? Sorry again if this has already been asked. -

BBC with a brutal takedown of Ukrainian hopes
RUSI who's no friend of Putin has views on the Russian economy. Russia’s Wartime Economy isn’t as Weak as it Looks https://www.rusi.org/explore-our-research/publications/commentary/russias-wartime-economy-isnt-weak-it-looks Today’s system is no different. Designed to ensure that the Kremlin can pursue a sovereign foreign policy against the interests of the collective West, it is doing its job. The market is strong enough to give the system adaptability and dynamism. And the state is strong enough to ensure that sufficient resources are mobilised towards achieving its security objectives. For as long as this equilibrium remains intact, Russia will be able to generate the necessary economic resources to sustain enough military power to wage war in Ukraine and, over the longer term, to rearm for a prolonged confrontation with the West. Any hopes that its economic vulnerabilities will bring it to the negotiating table are therefore unlikely to be realised. -

Thai PM Considers Easing Alcohol Sales Rules to Boost Tourism
If you need to get an all day drink, if you cannot survive between licensing hours or control your alcoholism, then choose Russia. Thailand does not need any more alcohol dependent tourists, we have enough already. -

BBC with a brutal takedown of Ukrainian hopes
What's all this leftie nonsense? A lot of people on the right oppose Trump too: Bolton , Boris Johnson, as example of well known figures. We don't pepper our posts with 'righties, bla bla bla..', it's a sign of a poor vocabulary, thinking. According to ANN, this space is dedicated to discussion and debate. Nothing about childish name calling. Your facts: 1. Three years in, Ukraine is still fighting on and has no intention of surrender. 2. Yes, at present but if Russia's economy and logistics collapse, at present they're using donkeys for transport, then their army could collapse. 3. Putin dare not mobilise the Russian population further. He fears the mothers of the dead who eventually brought the military back from Afghanistan. 4.. True, Biden was cowardly. 5. I don't know, I hope so. 6. I believe Europe will support Ukraine until Russia retreats. The solution is to back Ukraine with more missiles and make it clear to Russia its invasion will not succeed. -

Man 64, Chokes to Death on Pork Intestine Despite Rescue Efforts
Picture from responders. A 64-year-old man choked to death while eating pork intestine at his home in Wichian Buri district, Phetchabun province, on 13 February. Emergency services from Wichian Buri Hospital’s 1669 radio dispatch centre received a distress call reporting the incident at a residence in Bo Rang subdistrict. Rescue teams from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation rushed to the scene but were unable to save the man. The deceased, identified as Somsak, was found lying on the ground wearing only a sarong, with a bowl of pork intestine in soup, beside him. Officers from Wichian Buri Police Station and medical examiners from the hospital arrived to conduct an initial investigation. Khamron, a 43-year-old neighbour who witnessed the event, described how Somsak began choking and attempted to spit out the food but failed. Realising the seriousness of the situation, Khamron alerted the victim’s relatives, who tried various life-saving measures, including abdominal thrusts and trying to manually clear the airway with their fingers. However, the man’s condition deteriorated rapidly, with him turning blue before succumbing. Responders on arrival attempted CPR, but were unable to clear the airway, with the obstruction deeply lodged and blocking all rescue efforts. Authorities and medical staff were satisfied with the cause of the death from examination at the scene and subsequently released the body to the family for religious funeral rites. -- 2025-02-14
