Burma Bill
9 hours ago, webfact said: prepare for the reopening of the Mae Sai border crossing Good news indeed. When I lived in Lanna (pre-Covid 19), this border crossing to Tachilek in Burma was a regular shopping trip for me over many years. No problem with a one year retirement visa and a multiple re-entry permit. All I had to do was pay 500 baht to Burmese Immigration (previously 30 US$) for a one day "shopping" permit (passport kept by Burmese Immigration and returned on leaving) and complete a new Thai TM6 on re-entry. By regularly changing my TM6 there was no need for 90 day reports. The photo shows the border crossing into Tachilek and the pagoda structure on the left which was a duty free complex mainly for men's and ladies fashion, cheaper alcohol and confectionary. I purchased most of my shirts and trousers here because the sizes were ideal - a large was a large and not like a M (Thai L). The trousers/jeans had differing inside leg measurements. Beyond the border gate, ahead and down to the right, was a large street market complex of shops and stalls. If time allowed, I used to have a quick flutter at the roulette table in one of the nearby casinos. Always a great day out in Burma, especially when plums and peaches were in season, and relaxing with chilled Burmese ABC stout (black beer)!!

Randell
There was a Burmese immigration bombing and fire fight yesterday evening so I don`t think we will see it opening any time soon.
Rotweiler
The bombing was FAR away in Mae Sot. I think this should not affect the on-going efforts by the Myanmar and Thai officials to re-open the Tachilek - Mae Sai border crossing.

Rotweiler
Feb 1 was the most recent. All seem to have been related to Shan separatist activities but no one is confirming that (at least not yet).
