Thailand on Tuesday (April 26) reported 13,816 new COVID-19 cases, 21,072 recoveries and 120 additional deaths over the past 24 hours.

Tuesday’s cases bring the total number of COVID-19 infections in Thailand to 4,194,684 with 28,019 deaths.

The news comes as a number of provinces in Thailand have stated their intention to be among the first to declare COVID-19 an endemic disease, though approval from the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) is required before any further announcements can be made.

Dr Suthep Petchmak, inspector-general of the Ministry of Public Health, said during a meeting that he was informed by Dr Kiattiphum Wongrajit, permanent secretary for public health, that 15 provinces are prepared for the new disease status.

According to Dr Suthep, the Department of Disease Control has completed its criteria for the designation, but the EOC has yet to discuss which provinces are ready for approval. A date for the EOC meeting to discuss the issue has not been set.**

All the major COVID statistics reported by the Thai government continued their post Songkran holidays decline on Tuesday, with new deaths down to 120, new official COVID cases down to 13,816 and serious COVID hospitalizations down to 1,825.

Each of those tallies marked the country’s lowest daily numbers of the past week by wide margins, with still no sign that the government’s feared post New Year’s holidays surge of COVID cases is anywhere in the offing -- at least according to their official reports.

New COVID deaths fell from 124 yesterday to 120 today. Official new COVID cases fell from 14,994 yesterday to 13,816 today. And the current tally of serious COVID hospitalizations declined from 1,876 yesterday to 1,825 today. The total number of active COVID cases under care in the country also declined from 174,500 yesterday to 167,124 today.

In addition, a subset of the serious COVID hospitalizations in the worst condition, those requiring intubation to breathe, also dropped from 903 yesterday to 868 today.

For context, during the peak of the Delta wave last fall, Thailand's daily COVID case count topped out at 23,418, but the numbers of serious hospital cases and the intubated share of those peaked above 5,600 and 1,100 respectively, and daily deaths topped 300 for a brief period.

Will never happen you wont get rid of a virus no matter what you do. It is here to stay

Reading the figure are we to assume the following:

1. Cases means infections nothing more

2. Deaths are from the effects of Covid with no underlaying illnesses i.e. Obesity, heart problems, Cancer etc? Namely an otherwise fit person died from Covid. and

3. The persons that died had been tested positive within 28 days but actual cause of death was something else.

Clarification would be appreciated

There is  no way this country will be   covid free nor Bangkok and Pattaya will become endemic.  That would mean that the bars could open .

HEAVEN FORBID

We have another drop today from the 95 cases yesterday but unfortunately the deaths keep on coming.

Health officials on Tuesday (April 26) reported 85 new COVID-19 cases in Prachuap Khiri Khan province, of which 25 cases were found in Hua Hin.

Elsewhere in the province, 5 cases were found in Pranburi, 2 cases in Sam Roi Yot, 5 cases in Kuiburi, 5 case in Thap Sakae, 8 cases in Bang Saphan, 7 cases in Bang Saphan Noi, and 28 cases in Mueang Prachuap Khiri Khan.

Three new COVID-19 related deaths were reported in the province today.
