National — Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha was pleased after Thailand’s travel safety was ranked 8th globally and 1st in ASEAN by a recent American survey, saying this would help the wider re-opening of the country on May 1st.

Mrs. Traisulee Traisornkul, Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister’s Office revealed that Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha expressed great satisfaction and gratitude after Berkshire Hathaway Travel Protection announced the State of Travel Insurance Report.

The report showed that Thailand’s travel safety was ranked eighth internationally by American tourists and third in Asia after Japan and South Korea, while Millennial tourists ranked Thailand as the second safest destination. Thailand, on the other hand, was ranked first in ASEAN by American tourists.

Not sure Thailand is safer than Singapore but then I'm not American!

I've had to pay off some Thai guys in bkk after one of our group was rude to them and on another occasion also been threatened to be shot by a thai women, this turned out to be a total misunderstanding and later resolved however you can see the thais sometimes act in haste and alot of violence is the result of drugs which aren't readily available in Singapore. I've encountered no trouble in Singapore.

I guess this report does not include reference to ROAD safety while in Thailand!!

Things that compromise safety in Thailand:

1. Crossing the road anywhere, anytime;

2. Driving a car or (worse) motor-cycle anywhere anytime;

3. Song-thaews overloaded with passengers;

4. Taking a long-distance bus AT NIGHT.

This little list barely scratches the surface of all that may compromise your safety in Thailand.

I've rea another article and it seems like the results are strongly biased towards countries perceived to have handled the pandemic well. That's surely only way Thailand could finish that high in a safety poll!

What safety???

The road?

chance of being robbed?

murdered?

scammed?

Wonder how much they paid to be in this survey. TAT promotion!

To sum up your post:

Anybody who is within sight of any road, path, or trail in the Kingdom is in peril for their lives.

It's a generalization but sad and true.

1. the survey appears to be done by people never travelled on a Thai road.

2. Does not matter where they appear on any survey - anything more than just flashing your passport and maybe vaccine cert and they aint coming.

The results of the report don't say much for the observations of American tourists or 'Millennial tourists'.

I’ve always felt safer wandering at random around Bangkok than in many European cities, where I’ve occasionally been approached by aggressive beggars. Despite spending a lot more time there, it’s never happened to me in Thailand.

Safety in Thailand ? just makes me want to laugh and makes me immediately think of this old Photo Sept 2019 of 'safer' small buses.

Number ONE…Who would doubt It ????

State of Travel Insurance Report - never heard of them. I do however, read of the many daily incidents that does not bode well to for Thailand's travel safety record. I know which one I find more credible.

This is a travelor survey.. not expats. Most, likely, are not driving.

Was it out of 7 country's tested ????

I just spent 10 minutes trying to find the relevant part of the report, and gave up. Articles like this should have an exact link to the source, and I may have missed it, but I don't see it. Asia is on p. 34 of the 2019 Report, I only found summaries, sketches, of the 2022. I was reading yesterday what Buffett said about the recent performance of his insurance business, so I wanted to look. It seems from what I could find not to be very knowledgeable of local conditions.

Fake news?

Was Koh Tao excluded from the survey

and the confusion keeps giving 555    ..... and 1st in ASEAN  and third in Asia after Japan and South Korea so what is it 1st or 3rd in Asia

According to the positioning of the apostrophe in the headline only one tourist was asked.
