National – The Thai Ministry of Public Health is planning to propose what they call ‘Endemic Sandboxes’ on three tourist islands, namely Koh Samui, Koh Chang, and Phuket, and allow the reopening of night entertainment venues legally in these areas.

Notably, however, Pattaya is left out of the initial proposal despite its sprawling nightlife industry, as Public Health officials at first want to limit legal reopenings to islands that they claim can be more easily monitored.

Public Health Permanent Secretary Kiattiphum Wongrajit said today, May 12th, that the plan would initially be proposed to the Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) for their consideration as an initial action plan for approaching the ‘endemic’ period in Thailand and, after over a year, legally reopening nightlife, which has been roughly closed since April of 2021. Currently, the bar and nightlife industry is operating, on paper anyway, as “converted restaurants” with a variety of restrictions and rules.

More of the same old lame ideas that have paralyzed Thailand being regurgitated by the same old men

And of course one of the rules will be that you will have to prove you have been a resident of the island for 5/7/14 days (insert as required)  to prove you are not just visiting for the booze.

Oops I forgot it is meant to attract tourists!

The governor of Pattaya must have seriously peed off someone in government.

Control is their game.

Letting the doofuss at the  health ministry dictate the business of the tourism and entertainment industries is like letting the sanitary department run the finances and the banking business of Thailand...

Hard to let go of the grit boxes when they have provided so much to so few ????

Just use the word "Open", and stop with all this "Endemic" and "sandbox" BS.

Briefly re-opened pre-Delta. That is if we're talking discos/nightclubs. Not sure about go-gos?

They reopened for a short period in early Covid days..... in Pattaya it was great, hardly any tourists and us Expats were very popular!

Good idea.

Send anyone with Omicron to these plague islands including Phuket to keep the rest of us safe! Entry only if you have a positive test!
