What Do You Think Of The Expat Club?

I know you can get all sorts of free (so called) advice, but you can get better here on Thaivisa, I find.

The 'experts' who are supposed to give free advice on Sundays when they meet, are really only looking for punters.......and the Speakers are either Boring as hel_l or trying to

sell their products or services.....The SS Sausage Co showed a slide show of different types of sausage that went on for ever!

You pay a few Bht to get in and they 'give' you a free 'iffy' breakfast.....

It's obviously a nice little earner for the everpresent Niels Colov.

Don't you mean "Vile Colons"and the "King's New Clothes"?

Expat clubs? The majority of the attendees/members at these meetings are more than happy to share their combined ignorance of a well-known, or even obvious fact........even though, on an individual basis, they recognise the silliness of it all. But, I accept that some people need this type of cocoon.

Anyway, you're right, you can't beat TV.com and the forums for advice, opinion and guidance.

Well there are two exFat clubs here in Pattaya.

Both seemed like geriatic meetings to me.

Guess if I were an old fart it would be a grand way to kill a Sunday morn.

Weird isn't it. These people have worked the majority of their lives and have now found paradise, then they try to make it like it was back home. Now stop me if I am wrong however there is something fundamentally wrong with people like that.

Just an off topic note did anyone see the address of Pattaya by Nils over the festive period. Oh! Who does he think he is??

Anyway you can stick expat clubs where the sun don't shine.

There is a s missing in the word expat. If you put it at the beginning or the end of the word (or at both) that's up to you

Anyway, I am a member of the Club, but don't go to the meetings. I was only interessted in the Discounts you can get with the Card.

What's the point of this post then if you already state your opinion in the title and sub-title?

Another Neils Colov bashathon maybe? I am sure he really worries about them.

Expat clubs serve a purpose and those that attend regularly may be after more than just a free breakfast. If one choses to use other methods to socialise in Pattaya, then that's your choice too.

Good observation that a lot of useful advice can be gleaned from the pages of TV. You can also flame and discount other participants as stupid, ignorantt and useless, all from the complete anonymity of your computer. Now, where is the fun in that?

In the end, nobody is forcing you to go and pad Mr Colov's bank account is there?

Its horses for courses, i meet a lot of people and it is one of many places i advise people to go, its not my cup of tea either, but they are adults let them be the judge, not forgetting there are about 300 people go weekly!

as for the boss 2 things

1 profit is not a dirty word!

2 he does his more than fair share of charity work ok he gets on tv a lot so what, would you want to do it? me? not on your nelly!

fun fun out!

Touche. I went twice, it wasn't exactly "my bag", but it may come in very useful one day for something... Sure, people are going to push a business, but it's certainly not only a nonstop advertisement... I would hope they give out some kind of REAL discount coupon for listening to a lecture about sausages or anything else..

If someone has figured out a way to put on those meetings/events and make some money, I think that's great... and I don't think anyone is making "big bucks"... I wasn't crazy about the breakfast, but I certainly didn't feel like I was getting ripped off...

I also wasn't crazy about the architecture of that Gran Sole Hotel... what the frick is that style? Maybe post-neo-gothic kitsch... didn't work for me.

I have been to the meeting about 3 times in 7 years. Its ok if you really want to know about something, but i would not go just because i had nothing to do, i would rather sit and fall asleep on the beach. Everyone seemed friendly and helpful but i was very bored. I think its ok for newbies to Pattaya, to get the information and advise, but not every week.

im sure its not my thing, have never been ,but i know a couple of old guys who go every time.its more of a morning out thing for them. its where they choose to get their information from ,after all they cant speak thai, they cant ask the organ grinder, so they have to ask the monkey.they are just a couple of happy old retired guys who like to live in the sun where they can have a cheap shag now and again.they would think sitting in front of a computer for information(also often from the monkey) was pretty strange (no human interaction). they are no more or less boring than most farang i have met in pattaya.

A lot of Colov-bashers here I see. Bet you're all English.

The English are known for knocking anyone who has even a little success. No matter that the success has been gained by hard work and endeavour, the English (well, the type who've criticised Niels Colov in this topic) will show their black hearts and knock, knock, knock.

Didn't you understand the question? The poster wants to know what you think of the Expats CLUB.

Give it a rest.

Try being magnanimous for a change. Credit where credit's due.

I think that you're a relative newcomer to Pattaya and, by your sycophantic reply, it's obvious to me that you don't know this person.

Yes, I do understand the question and my answer is that I would never patronise any organisation that deems to have this person as its Club President & CEO. The club and the man are one and the same, I think that people are saying what they think of this Expats Club. I could write more about him but he's not worth the time nor the effort.

Is he the one doing the address with his kids sitting in shitty suits at the table looking bored and embarrassed as hel_l while he does it.

Saw one in 2005 which was repeated ad nauseam but it kept the girls amused laughing at the farang and his kids.

I quite agree Artisan.

Colov lead a very chequered past before coming to Pattaya and reinventing himself.

A few years ago one could read all about his ''alleged' criminal past just by typing into Google. I have said alleged since you cannot believe everything you read on the internet. Though in his case it was pretty overwhelming! :o

Back on topic regarding the Expat Clubs:

I've attended both, multiple times, and find them interesting--albeit long thus I leave after a hour or so.

And, while the average age is 65+ of the attendees, that does NOT detract from the topics discussed.

Bottom line: It can be a pleasant way to spend a Sunday morning, IMO.

Not sure about Nils, but many folks come to Pattaya to reinvent themselves. I think that is a healthy thing to do every now and then.

When first here, I went to a few meetings and benefited from the information I got. Nils himself offered me some help and contrary to what is said by some, my wallet was untouched. I also benefited from the advise I got from the Visa gentlemen. He took time to give me advise that enabled me to do the visa things we needed without any charge. Visa work went smoothly and I have expressed my appreciation.

I have not gone for some time, but will again if the topic and speaker appear interesting. Also, I would hope to be able to offer some help to a newbie as I was helped.

That said, I do enjoy a Thai Visa pissup more than the meetings at the Grand Sole.

It was good for when i first got here & it did help on visa money wiring questions............but being a young 51 year old I found it stifly stuffy. I did win a dinner for 2 & a free dinner for 2 at a treasure hunt on a free bot trip to Koh larn area.so the 500 baht lifetime membership paid for itself.

The Grand Sole hotel is old & dead smelling & the food is hideous. In the begining it was 20 baht & if you ate ate the Green Tree you paid for breakfast.after joining the TV it is a waste of time . Few people are into rock & roll hip hop or house music & Dean Martin is not my cup of tea.

Maybe if I was 89-100 years old it might appeal to me! I can think of better ways to spend 80 baht & 2 hrs or more!

Thats not fair Crocky. MOST posters here are kind and helpful, and they give advice that is based on experience and not designed to get you to hand over your hard earned cash. Like the 'So Called' free advisers at the Expat boring Club!.

So with respect 'SHUT IT!"
