May 16, 20224 yr I wondered if anyone where has any experience putting an elderly relative who requires full-time nursing care in a home in the Chiang Mai area. I’m particularly interested in costs and your opinions about the quality of care. Let's assume that it's for a patient who has gotten to the point that they can bath themselves nor go to the bathroom alone anymore.
May 16, 20224 yr Popular Post Another option is to hire a retired nurse as a full-time live-in carer, I understand 10K - 15K baht/month is the going rate.
May 16, 20224 yr There was an article about Chang mai care homes in the UK press recently https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10404681/Would-send-loved-one-live-care-home-6-000-miles-away-Thailand.html It's a very good idea and not so expensive Edited May 16, 20224 yr by The Hammer2021
May 17, 20224 yr What kind of visa this elderly person would need, retirement or could he/she get a dependant visa because farang son has a Non O visa here or some kind of medical visa?

May 17, 20224 yr Popular Post https://mckean.or.th/ McKean Senior Center; McKean Institute for the Elderly. Located in the Chiang Mai area. A friend lived there for a number of years and found it excellent. I recall the costs were reasonable. They have it all, Assisted living, Senior care, Hospital and a Crematorium. Worth checking out.

Your information may not be 100% correct but they have a palliative section, rehab and elderly care but that section was (is) mostly for ex patient who had no relatives to go back to and stayed in at Mckean after treatment. To my knowledge they have no crematorium at the centre but a couple within 1 km as well as a cemetery. A really nice place to rehab or preparing your last trip. Due to Covid you better make an appointment now to enter the area.

Rereading their website it says they provide cremation services. My friend who lived there told me about the cremation service however he has died and has been cremated so can't call him to confirm the details.
May 18, 20224 yr Interesting topic. I looked into it a bit and wrote some papers about it a while ago - here is one of them: https://www.aust-thai.com/blog/uncategorized/government-to-further-impinge-on-the-rights-of-pensioners-to-travel-or-live-overseas/

Yes, there definitely is a crematorium on-site at McKean. They can put together a nice, inexpensive memorial service. Some of the residents like to attend the services for their friends and make plans for their future services. It may seem morbid, but when you reach the point that you know this is coming, it's comforting to know your wishes will be fulfilled. The staff at McKean has a very good relationship with the local authorities and can help the family sort the situation with documents, repatriation of remains, etc. And, as mentioned, there are full-time doctors on staff, not just nurses, and their palliative care is excellent. In fact, one of the assisted living centers, not mentioned, Vivo Bene, transfers their residents, with their own caregivers, to McKean at end-of-life because of the good end-of-care at McKean. And yes, because of Covid, call to make an appointment to visit.
