Daily News reported on what they called a brazen robbery at a gold shop in the Rojana branch of Tesco Lotus in Bang Pa-in, Ayuthaya yesterday.

A man dress all in black with a bag produced a gun and told staffers to empty two trays. Meanwhile an accomplice - in the green attire of a food delivery rider - kept lookout.

The pair disappeared on a motorcycle with 86 baht weight of one and two baht gold jewelry items worth 2.5 million baht.

Bang Pa-in police were soon on the scene looking at CCTV and making forensic examinations.

Two female staffers, in a state of shock, said they had been told to keep quiet and still.

One tried to stall for time as a colleague was in the process of calling the authorities out of sight behind the counter. But their actions proved fruitless as the pair of robbers escaped.

Witnesses said that their suspicions were aroused when they saw the food delivery guy milling about on the second floor where the store is located but where there are no food outlets.

Thirty minutes after a police patrol had checked the gold shop and left, the thieves struck.

They still stick to open desk shops with zero safety measures. Thailand has changed and so they will have to.

How would such a shop look in Detroit, Sao Paulo or Johannesburg?
