Vietnam winning SEA Games gold is like England winning a World cup

Crazy scenes over the weekend as Vietnam beat neighbours Thailand 1-0 to take the gold media at the SEA Games in Hanoi.

 

It was a balanced final at My Dinh National Stadium in Hanoi as Vietnam and Thailand both attacked and created many chances.

 

Vietnam started to attack more when Thailand players were low on stamina and the goal came in the 83rd minute.

 

Nham Manh Dung, another substitution, headed the ball into the top corner after receiving a flawless cross from Phan Tuan Tai to score for Vietnam.

 

After the match, the whole of Vietnam seemed to have taken to the streets to celebrate.

 

Most Asian teams are realistic and don’t expect to go far in the World Cups however this SEA Games victory is their equivalent of them winning a World Cup.

 

Players will be invited to meet the President and will most likely receive financial rewards for their efforts too.

 

Super sub Nham Manh Dung will now become a local hero and will be making more from sponsorships.

 

 

Even some expats were seen out on the streets celebrating with their Vietnamese neighbours too.
