77kaoded published a story about a tragedy of an old fisherman who died after getting entangled in his own net.

Now in a sick twist the locals in his village think they can benefit by winning the lottery, notes ASEAN NOW.

Lt-Col Phichet Machuay of the Khok Samrong police in Lopburi, central Thailand, and rescue services were called after Long Thongnak, 64, was found dead in a klong in Moo 11.

At the scene police found four fish in a collection net and two in a fishing net.

The body of Long was laid out dressed only in a pair of underpants.

Tee, 36, the victim's son-in-law said that Long had gone fishing at midday yesterday and when he hadn't come home by 5pm he went looking for him.

At the klong he found shoes and a bag but no sign of his father-in-law. He shouted but got no response.

When he tried to retrieve the older man's fishing net it was stuck.

So he dove into the water and got a terrible shock. Long was under the water entangled in his own net 1.5 meters down.

He hauled him up onto the bank along with the two fish also in the net.

Police believe he got caught and there was no one around to help. After struggling to get out he got exhausted and drowned.

The locals said that many people have died in the klong.

They believe it is an omen for a lottery win with the age of the victim 64 and the numbers of fish - 2 and 4 - helping to give them the  winning numbers.

Relatives believe it was an accident and are preparing for the funeral after an autopsy.
