INN reported on the arrest of a Thai man who smashed up the family home and attacked his father and elder brother because he couldn't get money to satisfy his addiction to yaba (meth mixed with caffeine, a drug of choice in Thailand).

Theeraphon, 26, from Khon Kaen had recorded a video of the antics of his younger sibling in Nam Phong district.

Yesterday Nam Phong police chief Pol Col Pornsak Ngamdee said that the 67 year old father of the suspect called Phromma had reported about his son Jenkhwan, 22.

He wanted his son to undergo drug rehab.

A urine test had the telltale purple result. The suspect admitted drug use and was taken into custody.

The father decided not to press charges for assault.

ASEAN NOW notes that the media - as they invariably do in such cases - referred to the suspect as a "luuk thoraphee" - a reference to a story from the Thai Ramakian (Ramayana) about an ungrateful buffalo son.
